Title: My $500 Budget build (D15B) New Pics 4/9
Post by: skaterdudz02 on February 02, 2010, 10:49:21 PM
Okay, so I don't post much. (You all prolly don't give a fuck) I just read and absorb, but tonight I felt the itch to just post a little turbo setup I've been toying with.  :mexi:

For years I've always wanted a Civic hatch, besides the Accord, of course. Well, six months ago I picked up two. Both running, one in good shape and one a convertible. (long story)

So since purchasing, I've decided I'd scrounge up what I had lying around the shop and build myself a turbo kit for the car. I figured 6 PSI on a stock build would be sufficient.

Parts list:
Volvo T3 .42/.48 - Free
Oil lines - Free
Manifold - 65
WG - 50
Interfool + piping + clamps - 180
Exhaust - 85 (this is what pushed me up a little further on the budget)
Boost Gauge - 55
Sandwich plate - 25
Chip kit + restrictor - 34
Return & misc shit - free
WB - have one

Total - $494 -

That's so far, I don't think I'll need much more for this to succeed. And yes, I'll be using stock injectors for the moment. If I feel it's not enough, I'll upgrade.

Onto the pictas.

When I first bought the two cars.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2FOriginal2.png&hash=710adee817983026f417b546b9008d238792fee9)

The sad shape convertible. It looked like it was molested every day. Pics don't do justice.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2Fconvertible.jpg&hash=36476f7fe43249990b0d3ca479678826d4be2063)

So, after I bought them, found out the hatch with a top had an underlying smoking issue, so I decided to swap motors and clean things up a bit. Turns out, that convertible had something packing it's weight.

The old fucked up D15b7 (R.I.P) 250k
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2FEngine-3.jpg&hash=727b26f46619ccf4358038d54b1d3f14c93a57b0)

And the mighty D15B!
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2FOverallShotEngine.jpg&hash=38b8474e82e37b2eace3c28cef45d94cd818041f)

Of course it was painted and cleaned. The oil was soooo caked on there, that no one could ever tell it was a D15b.

------

As she sits in the bay. (Car is being painted too)

Misc turbo parts. Intercooler and piping is installed. Pics will be up tomorrow.

The convertible in the dead zone. It was fun while it lasted. Let me say driving it was fun as shit.  :mexi:

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2FConvertible-1.jpg&hash=457138c2192ba1ada984b43f563aa8cb719c16ef)

And as it sits now. With the appropriate gangsta lean. Shock will no longer go back in due to a bent frame.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2Fcivicgangstalean.png&hash=78add83bf8cb8e590a5d7c78cf89de69a563fc27)

MORE PICS TO COME!!

Oh, and if you all think I don't know how to boost or have never done it before, here's what I drive. Still running even after 30k of hard beaten slut miles and it's "idle bugs".

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2Fpic2.jpg&hash=03d31706d2bb3d8ec3b7ea94e966a3c1743e1613)

2/5 Update. Here's a few more of the car and turbo/exhaust manifold.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi78.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj91%2Fskaterdudz02%2FDSC01474.jpg&hash=f7031305797f2a3a29017c8fa3eaf239231eb590)

No rippers for either cars. Sadly enough. Hopefully I'll be able to pull plenty off with the hatch with it being light and all. Does anyone know how much these things "truly" weigh?

I figured 6 PSI on a stock build would be sufficient.

BTW, no boobies here.  :'(

This post stinks like fail.

Measure the lobe lift and determine wtf that head is from. Non-vtec D15B's exist, but are uncommon because they sucked. Should be okay with a turbo though, and I guess you can't beat the price.

Get some 4th gear rippers ASAP, don't bother with tuning just yet.

I've never been banned from the boards, both rhmt and hmt. You must be thinking of someone else.

As for the head wise, it did confuse me at first why there's a non vtec head on there. There is an area for a vtec solenoid to be added but I not sure about the rocker's if it has anything for the intake side. I'll have to look the next time I pull the cover.

All I know of the history of the car is it came from Canada and was an automatic. Had an auto P06 ECU in it too. Anyone else have input on this?

thats not for da mad tyte vtak soleniodz yo.  thats for a carb'd jdm vehicle.  jdm d15b's both came vtak and non vtak.  thats for a mad tyte fuel pump.

Well, there you go, it makes sense now. I'm surprised that's what it was used for because it's in the same location where a vtak solenoid would be.

The original d15b was the sohc ZC's little sister, rated ~103hp with fuel injection and less in carb'd cases. FYI a 92 dx's d15b7 is rated ~112hp, d16a6 ~108hp, sohc zc from 113-118hp.

Okay, so the car has been running now since mid February, I've just been a busy and lazy snob and haven't had the time to post up any progress.

That's pretty much all for now. Turbo doesn't leak. Smokes every once in a hard blown mood. Tuned on crome for only 6 psi at the moment. It pulls nice for just keeping things stock. It's my daily till I build up the Accord that's chillen at the moment.

Thanks. That was one thing I was contemplating on. I know bigger injectors will do better but to be honest, I'm not looking for high end numbers here. If the stock 240s run 5 or 6 lbs efficiently, then I'll be alright with that. I'd rather dump more money into the Accord and make that a 300 f series bomb.

Did you seriously think ppl use them because of the styling or rear legroom? Now imagine another 2-500lb less in a 4th gen.

BTW I wouldn't push that d15b too hard, if it is an obd0 style motor. It's not a regular d15b in that case, it probably will have pencil-dick conrods.

I appreciate all of the concern. You're right though, when I dropped the pan, they were surprisingly thin for my taste. That's why I've decided to keep it at a 4lb maximum.

I will say I've raped it enough already. It's seen plenty of 6k shifts and burnouts. But if carnage happens then, I have a spare block standing by.

How much do you guys think this little pecker can hold?

Don't forget I only have the stock 240cc injectors. I really don't want to dump any more money into this car even though I could prolly score 450s real cheap. I dunno 4 psi is sufficient for me just to dd. I push 15-20 on my accord so it really doesn't matter.
