Title: My winter project (1350whp Bitches)
Post by: dvst8r on May 11, 2012, 01:23:30 PM
Here is what I worked on and off this last winter, we just finally had it out to the dyno middle of this week.

Yes I suck at taking pics as I go, so there are weird leaps, and missing shit, but until someone comes just to hangout and take pics this is as good as it gets. My phone is the only camera I own.

I still need to find a picture of it before I modded it at all, but I don't seem to have one, I will ask around and maybe add that at a later date.

Here is where I started, I had already added that abortion of a longer aluminum tube off of that turbonetics t66. Prior to that there was a short silicone 2.5->3" hose that kept splitting, and eventually caused us to run over the charge pipe at 140mph. That abortion, was just a temporary thing to get it through 1 sled pulling event.

Here is the intake manifold before I pulled it off the truck, the niggers that put it on there couldn't read a torque wrench and cracked it, I spent a lot of time repairing those cracks, but like lots of things didn't bother to take pictures:
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0164.jpg&hash=de409abc3100994a973f5daf51140cc0e4c18102)

Here is where I went with it:
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0198.jpg&hash=9655419379939c9de55410e80ba730d7700ac811)

Here is the new secondary turbo (billet wheel s476):
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0176.jpg&hash=6e75d7dc3c55cc8a097ff8dfda8a6dea3f06791f)

Here is what I had to make for a cover so it would all fit:
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0261.jpg&hash=511847127143c60d77da59bbde4c3c06060e1543)

One of the biggest complaints of the old system (besides all the leaks, and blown silicone couplers) was how hard it was to work on, and remove the turbo's when needed, so here is where I went with that, starting with the new hotpipe:
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0254.jpg&hash=a4d2ad52b509486e2f9a228e7f000fd4557c5a9b)
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0253.jpg&hash=7bb6f9a8d266d980a213935fd9b259291631201e)
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0255.jpg&hash=c3188feb931905137d88b14ae61f73b3f27cc653)
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0256.jpg&hash=0a4e8a5487f67884113052ad8d387e750779b284)

Now that we don't have to support that S500 (billet 105mm) from the engine hoist (weighs about 80lbs) anymore, we can start on wastegates and charge piping (I really did a poor job of taking pics here) also some parts ready to go to ceramic coating:
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0258.jpg&hash=09185153c8dedc62b21160f1de68553db12ef4e1)

Fast forward to done, or almost done, as the last few weeks of the build I took no pictures. I had too much going on and the few minutes that I had to work on it, I did just that work:
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0102.jpg&hash=cfce49a7f53fcf350662ee46585cf3d826672918)

All of that work was rewarded when we hit the dyno (mustang dual roller eddy brake), and put this up, with obvious tire spin (see video):
(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb382%2Fdvst8r%2FTorreys%2520Build%25202011%2FIMAG0090.jpg&hash=8d7aa650cf951c7fab6fe18d56091185249ff0af)

The best the truck had done previously on the same dyno was 1170hp corrected (not sure of the uncorrected number that day, but that is what I go by, corrected numbers don't mean shit)

Here is a video of the best pass to date:
Ragged Edge Racing, Edmonton NHRDA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OM3kNDXjV0#ws)

They are going to the track tonight to do some shake down passes, but the real test will be at the beginning of June in Mission for the BD trucking nationals. Hoping to knock out some Low 9's. I will also try to find a good sled pulling video.

Some quick specs on the Truck:
-2005 quad cab short box 4wd
-Current weight 6800lbs
-Tuned with Smarty SSR (by me) will goto efi live as soon as released.
-Spool rear, Eaton E-Locker front.
-Lowered about 4"
-All steel and real glass, other then the hood, which turned out to weigh as much as the stock hood, and looks silly in my opinion. Power window's still work, but other then that the interior consists of a cage and two race seats.

They took it to the track for some shake down runs, I guess it was a really busy night (street legal's). Only made 4 passes, and they fought an electrical issue all night, so no overdrive. As such they were out of gear before the 1/8th mile. Best pass of the night was 10.88@111mph bouncing on the rev limiter from before the 1/8th.

I am gone to work, so this is all just second hand information. Sounds like they are going to re wire the overdrive (we just went to a manual valve body) and be out to Medicine Hat next weekend. Again I am going to miss that event, as I will be at knox mountain with highroller54, brine04, Trevor72 ect... Hopefully they have it sorted and can click off some mid to low 9 passes.

The good thing was, other then no overdrive, and one small oil leak that just required some Teflon tape to seal, up the truck was pretty much ready to hot lap all night.

Now you just need to get the block cut apart, and start designing those sleeves.  O0

Likely this week man O0
Head is mostly ported, still need to put the new seats, and cut out some more of the head so we can re shape the ports a bit more. Exhaust is already around 300cfm, gonna see if I can get the intake that high as well. The custom valvetrain is here so we are on it.

LOL, about the same weight as the rest of a rolling civic. That engine dressed with pumps and manifolds (no turbo's) with oil is about 1200lbs. But it runs on pump diesel.

We were up front in the pro pits, no the owner of the truck's motor home and stacker.

I'm curious what that spring-loaded thing is in front of the lower/front-facing turbo? Hand-actuated boost/flow controller?

Plate that cuts air flow in case motor takes off and kills motor, a lot of pulling classes require them.

It's a guillotine to shutoff air flow if the engine ever tries to runaway.

For this reason exactly, the pulling class the truck runs in requires it.

Yup return road side of the track, just up towards the track from where you saw that fag mobile. I'm surprised you don't see that truck everyday, he is from your neck of the world.

Got word it knocked out the converter in the pits before the first hit. Guess we hurt it in Edmonton, and that was part of our issue getting it to lock. It is at the trans guys place, trans is out waiting for the converter to be here early this week.

Any turbo setup that requires a "kill plate" to cut off airflow in case the turbos  TAKE ON A LIFE OF THEIR OWN AND BECOME TOO POWERFUL TO CONTROL get two thumbs and a boner way up from me.

@ .5" lift the ported 24v w/os valves out flows a stock 12v by 160cfm on the intake and 112cfm on the exhaust. That is big difference in airflow for the same displacement bottom end.

FUCK YEAH!

Next year's engine is going to be a beast. I can hardly wait until we can get you a blank piece of billet to work with! Say hello to twin 105's primaries at that point.

I might be going to look at a big ass 5 axis hmc cell system in the next couple of weeks... Because I really need to add 7 figures worth of debt... But then I could build anything :D

Mmmmm 5 axis...

We will be doing NHRA licencing passes on Friday June 1st in Mission (hopefully only 2), at the dyno day at BD on Saturday June 2nd, and finally racing at Mission on June 3rd. You should try to make it out for at least one of them.

Should be doable. You know if you need any space for the vehicles trailers you are welcome to the shop/shop parking lot/ or my parents farm.

Thanks, we may take you up on that, as the truck owner wants to drive it to the dyno day. He was talking about driving it over the bridge, I know the truck will be fine, but the cops probably won't like the tires sticking out 3" on either side.

Passenger Dave getting to go for a ride, we had a hole in the one boost controller line, so it wasn't spooling properly nor was it making full boost on that run because of it. Dave still seemed to have a good time.  O0

I can only imagine the amount of money that is into these trucks to make them move like that.
I thought my 6.7l with +90 tune on the smarty was quick, seems slow now.
