Title: Track Virgin, popped cherry today!
Post by: ju-on on May 03, 2009, 06:42:59 PM
Well I've never been to a track before, ever.  Not even as a spectator.

Went out to the local track called Rock Falls in Wisconsin today to run her at a track for the first time ever.

Went with some veterans who showed me the ropes, and kinda coached me along.

Ended up with a best time of 11.2 @ 135.

I had issues with my clutch slipping, and missing shifts all day.  My "coaches" told me to just relax, just shift naturally, don't worry about shifting extremely fast for the first time, and instead just focus on making some clean runs.  So that's what I did and ran the above time.

We had like 5 cameras out there, but no one was recording on this run, except 1 person.  Turned out kinda crappy, but it's all we got.
Brandon 11.2 @ Rock Falls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tllNgtltIk#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

Anyhow, I'm pretty pumped because it has a lot more in it.  I just need to get more practice, learn to drive it better, and I should be into the 10's !!

Also, the car has no cage, full weight, and tech never said a word to me about running that time :D

I say even faster than 10.5.

My 132.8 went 10.54.

Great 1st time out dude, you'll be DEEP in the 10's real soon.

With something more like a 1.6 60', and setting up my No Lift To Shift, and some improved shifting, and I definitely think I'll be around a mid-high 10.

I'm sure they won't ignore that though, and I'll get the boot pretty quick.

This winter I think I'm going to consider putting just a basic 5 point cage in it.

Corey, get your shit running and come out on the 31st with us!

It's completely obvious that the driving is holding you back, but most people that have that problem use the excuse to say they ran a 17. Dude, it was your first time out and you're knocking on the door of 10's.

I'm gonna have to step it up.  :'(

Come on out.  We're looking at going on the 30th or 31st again.  I'm hoping Austin comes along just for the experience.  Even if the shuttle is only running 15's, that's still faster then 50% of what's out there.  I was pretty shocked to see a brand new Toyota Camry 4-dr, Saturn Aura, and a new Toyota Corolla out there.  What a waste of $40 to run 17's in something like that.  Just my opinion.

Someone told me that the rumor is next season, parachutes are going to be required at 135.  :(

Let me know in advance. Work is getting crazy, which is good for money, but not good for time to work on the car. I know what you're saying about the rock falls attendance, and I'm not worried about clowning those homos, but if my car runs a 15 and doesn't leave the tranny at the starting line, I'll burn that fucker to the grizz-ound.

Only if you completely fail to learn how to drive.

congrats, did aron with the white talon go with you? btw rock falls sucks big time.  The tracks down here hook better and on test n tunes only cost like $15 to $20 to run, plus you don't have to drive 2 hours each way.  Also they are extremely lax on tech, if it runs you can race.

Yeah Aaron was with.  He didn't bring the Talon though because he's throwing a new tranny in it.  He was one of the guys helping coach me along.

And no I'm not having someone else drive it.  It's my car that I had fun building.  And now it's time to have fun learning how to drive it.  Just going to take some practice, it's a learning curve.  That's how I see it.

I would agree with....BT. I've rode in/drivin fast cars.

Auto-x/road course/rally on any level > drag racing

That said, I wont knock drag racing...if that makes any sense. I personally would rather auto-x/do a HPDE or participate in any level of rally.

you must be thinking of another corey, my car runs and i dont live anywhere near you lol

theres a few fast local DSM's one of them has gone 10.001@140 however hes a pretty nasty driver. i think most of your time will come from shifting, most DSM's i see at the track wait like 10 seconds between shifts, dont know if its cause the trannies are garbage or if they are afraid to break something. dont be a pussy, bang those gears.

+1

If everything's right with the tranny, you'll just consume second gear shift fork contacts, and after a while the gear itself.  I have a friend who'd buy an initial Shepherd built transmission and then just replace second gear related parts himself.

Ha, yeah sorry I was thinking you were Colin for some reason, woops  :-[

The tranny in there is built by TRE, about 1.5 years on it now.  Just for some damn reason I kept missing 3rd gear.  Just need some time to get used to it and hopefully I'll be able to bang the gears no problem.

I think I just found my new clutch setup as well, which should hopefully get rid of the slipping issues I was running into that day.
