Title: Bought a new car...non previously owned
Post by: Whitey on May 28, 2009, 08:58:37 PM
Well I finally broke down and bought a brand new car.  I finally came to the realization that a nice daily driver is better than a nice weekend car.  Every day I've been driving a 93' Oldsmobile with 266,000 miles on it back and forth to work while I only drove the Mustang 2,000 miles last year.  Granted the Mustang is a ton of fun and the majority of those miles were doughnut runs, but its just too much of a cop magnet.  I'm sick of not being able to take it to the bar, drive in the snow or even drive it to work without getting hassled for things like window tint.   ::)  So I got a 2009 Honda Accord EX-L.  3.5L V6 with the 6-speed manual.     Pics:

I Definitely love owning a Honda again.  I love how it shifts and handles.  I'm keeping it stock.  The only thing I'm going to do to it is make a short shifter cause I know how nice Honda's are with short shifters.  And possibly some rims that keep spinning when I stop.   O0  Anyone want to buy a Mustang?

The only thing the same between the 4-door Accords and the coupe is the door handles, the coupe is a totally different car.  I didn't want a 4-door (that elmininates the entire faggot Acura line  ::) ) and knew I wanted a Honda.  I was thinking of buying a Civic for the longest time but I wanted leather and the only Civic I'd get is the SI.  And for the price of the SI, I figued I'd spend the extra and get something that's more comfortable.  The Accord is definitely the most bang for the buck: heated leather seats, dual climate control, sunroof, 18's, foglights, satellite radio (not my sirius though  >:( ) and 271hp 254lbft.

I really like V6 Accord Coupes.  I do not like Honda's pricing and financing options on them.  Kind of why you don't see a bunch of them on the road.

Sticker price is for faggots, how much did you really end up spending?  In this economy, I'm hoping around $24.5.  I've been kicking myself recently for not picking up an 08 MazdaSpeed3 about a month ago for $19k.  I wanted an 08 for the savings, but the idea the car had been on the lot for 2 years made me decide against it.  I was saving like 2.5k though.  Plus the car has an absolutely shitty clutch engagement point.

Yeah the economy is bad but like you said, you don't see a bunch around so they are hard to find.  If I was buying a 4 door 4-cylinder I'd be able to get a better deal.  I called about 15 dealerships and the majority of them said they couldn't even get the car. I called one dealership that said they had one in stock.  I called them back a half hour later and they said it was just sold.   :-\  But I was able to get it at the price I wanted.  I got it out the door, including everything for a couple grand under the sticker.

I love how salesman never talk about the price of the car, only "what do you want the monthly payment to be?"  I said I don't give a fuck about the montly payment I want the car for this price.  He than tried to sell me the extended waranty, paint protectant and interior stain proofing.   ::)  He said it was only a couple bucks more a month and I told him to get fucked.  Its amazing people fall for that stuff.  :-\

I did get the Honda financing of 2.9% for 36 months.  Found out my credit score is 790   It does suck becuase I got a nice low payment of $705 a month.  But I don't care about the monthly payment becuase I plan on having it paid off by next May.

yea man nice rig.  i remember the feeling when i bought my altima ser.  fuckin nice comfortable and stylish dd is where its at. power everything leather premium sound...  and leave it stock.   i have zero desire to mod my altima and effect its delicious cruisiness at all.

mine costs me a paltry 493.05 a month,   60 month tho.

Lol do you understand what financing is?   $24,000 @ 2.9% for 36 months is $705... simple concept.  Whats so crazy?  I could have financed for a dollar a month for the rest of my life, would that be better?

yes i understand financing. doesn't change the fuck you pay $705 for a honda. at 2.9% interest you wouldn't have paid that much more.

still, 705  :o lol

especially funny since nothing new is going to hold its value especially in this economy, and the economy is just going to get worse. you're sinking tons of money into something that ain't worth shit when you pay it off.

i know a little something about buying brand new, paying it off in a year and having it be worth almost half of what it was new

btw YES, a dollar for the rest of your life would've probably been better... unless you plan on owning that car until you die.

mid 400s for a honda is still suicide territory. its a nice DD and car but i have had enough of buying new shit. waste of money... the only reason most people buy new is because they can't get credit for used. but at 790 whitney could've.

i've gotten as low as 5.2% on used and this was months ago.

how is it suicide? its a nice car, he paid 24K for it. thats not terrible at all. i mean fuck GM tries to get more then that for cars that cant even be compared to a loaded accord.

I know exactly what you are saying.  I've been dealing with people over the internet to get pricing.  It's kind of a head trip though.  I ask for pricing, and they give me it and then won't negotiate.  I will never trust the first price a car dealership gives me.  They could give me a price $10k under invoice and I'm still not trusting it.  I expect to have to negotiate and when they won't, I get all freaked out.  That is why I didn't buy the MS3.  Guy said "Car is $19k".  I told him I'd buy it that day for $200 less.  He wouldn't drop the price a dime.  I figured he was somehow fucking me if his first price was his final price.

I also got the same bullshit with the monthly payment.  At that point my savings account was raking in 3% interest and I was going after a 1.99% interest rate.  I flat out told them, I'd put the least amount of money down if the interest was going to be 1.99 because I was making more money keeping it in my savings account than making a specific monthly payment.  The guys just couldn't get the concept that the end price is what matters when you have enough money to pay what you need to.  As long as I'm not paying $1000 a month, I don't care.  All of my income is disposable.  I'm 23 and live at home with basically no bills.  I can pay off a $1000 a month. I just want to make sure at the end of the period I made the best fiscal decision.  If that is a short loan with a high monthly payment, I'll do that.  If it's a longer loan with a low monthly payment, I'll do that.  People need to take algebra again and learn how to do some simple math.  It's amazing how stupid people are in regards to money.  Paycheck to paycheck niggas trying to drive around in new cars ruining the world for people with reasonable fiscal understandings.

Not necessarily true.  Used car financing is a lot less inciting than new car financing.  You may get a nicer car used for the same amount, but in the end you are still getting a car with an extra 60k miles and 3-4 years of life gone.  More to the new vs used argument when you are talking about average person cars.  Luxury cars buying new is stupid.  A $60k Mercedes is $35k 4 years later.  A Honda Civic/Accord only will drop about $3-4k after 3-4 years.  Not a huge drop.

Nice, pricey for a Hyundai. Looks promising though.

"With a base 2.0-liter turbo V-6, the coupe gets to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.  The V6 version comes with leather interior standard, which is impressive for a car priced at $25,000.  Achieving 5.7 seconds for $25,000 makes the Genesis Coupe the least expensive 300 horsepower coupe in the world.  Moreover, the coupe is being certified to run on premium or regular unleaded gasoline while losing a mere four horsepower in the process.  The base V6 comes standard with a six-speed manual and sports fog lights, chrome fascia accents, and premium door sill plates.

Just as exciting is the overall Genesis Coupe base model, which comes in at $22,750 with a turbocharged, inline-four-cylinder base engine. It has been a while since we’ve seen a rear-drive four-cylinder coupe emerge for several years in the U.S."

Lol I love your stupidity.  Your telling me to buy a used car to save a couple thousand and get a higher interest loan to pay over a longer period.  Wow, that means all the money I saved by buying slightly used went into paying for interest.  When for the same price I could have bought something brand new.

Yeah new cars are not a wise investment but neither is paying interest on loans.  I think in the end I'd rather put the money towards the car.   ::)

But thank you for being so concerned on how I spend my money.

Rass, I am not sure buying something that devalues so quickly can be called a reasonable fiscal attitude.

If you have cash and want to dump it into something, buy a Charger and put it in cold storage.  With the economy very few will sell, and their resale will remain high as an instant collector car.  Sort of like the 03-04 Cobra which still commands $22K.

I did a three step cleaner wax, polish and carnuba.  I think its better than the $600 "paint protectant" that the car dealer wanted me to pay:

Rass, I am not sure buying something that devalues so quickly can be called a reasonable fiscal attitude.

If you have cash and want to dump it into something, buy a Charger and put it in cold storage.  With the economy very few will sell, and their resale will remain high as an instant collector car.  Sort of like the 03-04 Cobra which still commands $22K.

There is value in having a new car other than fiscal.  I do mostly agree with what you are saying.  I was very tempted to buy a new car because of the bad economy and looking to snatch a deal that would be better than buying used.  Doesn't exist with cars that are decent.  All dealerships are down 30-40% but they don't want to cut some deals just to keep in business.

End result, I'm going to buy a 4-5 year old car with 80k miles like I initially thought I was going to and be done with the whole thing.  Then sell the car in a year or two at a minimal loss since I put very little miles on cars(especially with split duty on the moto).  The issue is all the cars I want to buy are "summer" cars and I need a winter car.  I might have to be a faggot and buy a used WRX.  I just don't trust those vehicles in used form.  To me they will come beat and bruised and they were already fragile to begin with.  I have no desire to fit broken drive train parts on a 4-5 year old DD.  I'll probably end up a ghetto Whitey getting an older V6 Accord Coupe.  I like them a lot, but I kind of want a HB for road trips.  I have a strong desire to see more of America and HBs are much better for the job.

Saw one on the road the other day and was WTF... I like it... TURBO NONETHELESS... hEARD TALE THAT PEOPLE ARE MAKIKNG LIKE 550+ ON STOCK BLOCKS.

I want one

Nice car. I just could never justify loosing thousands of dollars as soon as I sign my name.

Mom bought a 05 Equinox. Thought about selling a year after and used ones were being sold for $15k her's was stickered at $25k got it for $22k out the door. A prospective $7k loss after one year... no thanks. Sure it's a chebby, but it follows suit all around.

only the 2.0 i4 are turbo'd. the 3.8 v6 are not.

One of the '06+ with the 2.5, they seem to have most of their problems fixed.  I still wouldn't try to do burnouts on dry concrete in one but they hold together pretty well.  You might try to get a repo for less than NADA trade in (what the bank loans on) and fix the one or five things that are always wrong with repos for a sum total of less than trade-in.  Then you drive it for a couple years and sell it for a break even price.

The last hawkeye I tuned had phantom knock from the exhaust being bent so it rattled against the chassis (very common, causes the vehicle to run like shit under boost, great way to buy a car "that has something bad wrong with it OMG!!1!"), the owner said "I think it happened yesterday, I took the car off some jumps."  It has 50K miles, dirty, mud everywhere underhood.  I suspect the oil has been changed twice, three times tops.  If that sort of person can't break the damn thing then Subaru's priduct quality has improved.

Yeah was a misprint. RWD 2.0 4cyl 210hp regular 223hp w/ premium 223trq curb weight 3,294 lb- $22,000, RWD v6 non turbo 306hp regular 312hp premium 266trq curb weight 3,389 lb - $25,000 both come with standard 18" rims and 6 speed transmission.

Seems to be a tad heavy, but overall not bad.

Anything with a shorter term loan is going to have a higher payment.  So what?  He actually pays less with the shorter loan than a longer one, assuming the same interest rate.

If you had a point you'd be criticizing the bottom line sale price and not the monthly payment.  You don't have a point.  You're just flipping your shit because you're about to be a dad and you don't know what the fuck to do with yourself.  IT'S OKAY.  The child will love guns, burnouts, and untaxed liquor.  Everything's gonna be right as rain.  :noel:

the depreciation over 4 years is higher than the interest you'd pay for a used car at around 5% which is what you can get for a used car.

Yeah, and the best bang for the buck has always been buying 4-6 year old repo cars and polishing them up.  Failling that the $4K and under private party ads in the local paper are where the $ per mile of use values are.  You haven't gone either route in your entire history.  So what?

No doubt, my wifes 07 civic (black) just like yours has tons of chips on the front. Black is defiantly the best looking car when its all polished up. But looks the worst if its not taken care of.

You mean the plastic mini wing looking things or the "bras"? Those bras are retarded as hell. Either when you take them off you have a nice deep color strip of paint across your faded ass hood or the people never take them off and dirt/grime/rocks/etc etc gets under them and scratches the fuck out of the paint worse than any chips.

The only thing I would even consider is the clear vinyl they put on cars now:

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotchgard/Home/Applications/Automotive/Professional_Application/ (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotchgard/Home/Applications/Automotive/Professional_Application/)

It would be nice to get but you couldn't wax the paint and I think the sun would bake the stuff under the vinyl and the paint would eventually fade differently.  I could be wrong but I have no experience with the stuff.  I hate car bras becuase they look so gay and they ruin your paint anyways so whats the point?

The teflon coating is a scam.  They tried to sell me that bullshit for $350.00 but couldn't answer my question to what exactly it is.  All they are doing is waxing the car and making you pay a ton of money for it.  Its how the dealership make money.  A freshly waxed car will cut down on the bugs sticking to it.

Looks like a nice enough car. I probably would have gotten a 4dr... but thats personal preference.

You might want to get a hood deflector for it, they look kinda gay buy REALLY cut down on stone chips on teh hood.

Def NOT a bra... thats thing will fuck up your shit WAY more.

I meant the goofy looking plastic deflector that attaches to the front of the hood. The dealer will have them in the parts department.

The clear vinyl will protect the immediate area ... but does nothing for the rest of the hood. If you need some... PM me... but I dont think its the best protection.

It seems that somehow that stupid plastic thin deflects ALOT more shit and protects basically the whole hood.

My 1998 Sienna has had one since new... has 200,000km on it and theres not s singe paint ship on the hood.

Like this.........

You need to work more and get rid of all those bills... Obama needs your money to help those of us who don't want to work for a living.

700 a month feeds a family of nine and buys a welfare cadillac with a little help from slinging the rock.  Are you trying to take food from the mouths of my nine children by eleven different mothers?

I love how salesman never talk about the price of the car, only "what do you want the monthly payment to be?"  I said I don't give a fuck about the montly payment I want the car for this price.  He than tried to sell me the extended waranty, paint protectant and interior stain proofing.   ::)  He said it was only a couple bucks more a month and I told him to get fucked.  Its amazing people fall for that stuff.  :-\

Extended warranty is worth it. When i bought my 06 pilot exL i almost didnt get it. A few years after owning it one of the ecu's went bad and my 4wd and antilock brakes wouldnt work. Dash looked like a damn christmas tree with all the lights on lol. Anyways the fix was over 4 grand.

I started with a 96' GSR, went to a 90' Civic, than a 96 Mustang, now an 09'   :?:  And the Accord looks huge cause it is.  The roofline is higher than a Lincoln Continential and wider.  But at least it doesn't feel big when driving it.  Still not big enough for the cat:
