Title: got pulled over
Post by: toyolla86 on November 08, 2009, 01:10:48 PM
the cop says my car was putting out blue smoke.
plus my drivers license didnt match my plates.

so two ticekts.

he says the smoke looked like it was coming from under the car and from the tailpipe.
of course the word of a cop is about as good as solid as dried up dog shit. they'll
whatever they have to in order to give you a ticket.

im just glad i got to drive my own car away.

WTF is blue smoke??????

and whats the likelihood of it coming from my CDM turbo.
how to fix also. (rebuild)

Blue smoke= oil, burnt oil
Title: Re: got pulled over
Post by: 92CXyD on November 08, 2009, 01:19:05 PM
blue smoke = oil burning

CDM Turbo could have a leaking seal.
Take the outlet to the compressor housing off and check for oil.
If oil is present then seal is leaking.

No oil present check the turbine housing and see if there is oil in there.

Check spark plugs and see if there is oil on the plugs.

Blue is oil burned in the combustion chamber.  White is oil smoking when it hits a hot surface, like the turbine housing/downpipe.

My car makes white smoke.  Bad oil pan gasket leaking onto precat = smokescreen

blue smoke burning in combustion chamber.

so like bad rings.

this really sucks then.

i have a breather but maybe its just not enough.
since its just a tube running to a bottle.

So his only probable cause for pulling you over was blue smoke coming out of your tailpipe? WTF... I call bullshit.
Title: Re: got pulled over

blue smoke burning in combustion chamber.

so like bad rings.

Or like considerable oil in the intake, from the china turbo or the PCV still hooked up.  Or crankcase pressures are high and it's coming past the rings.  Or a partially broken ring land letting a little slip by.

Odds are you are burning oil.
Title: Re: got pulled over
Post by: toyolla86 on November 09, 2009, 05:20:06 PM
well i have had the ic piping off and there is oil in the intake. i dont know how much but oil getting in there is a fact.

im thinking that crank case pressure may also be an issue since my breather hose is just that... a hose.

what else can i do to help crank case pressure.

time to rebuild the turbo maybe huh?

yeah he was trying to be a nice guy but whatever.
came back like, "well i have to write you these two tickets."

good thing im in business law right now and my teacher is a lawyer.
she gave me some good pointers for getting out of both of them.

ill use my military id for the one and then ill have a shady shop look it over and say nothing was wrong with it.
or that they fixed it.

Well if you have oil in your intake, then that means its getting into the combustion chamber. So you are probley burning oil. If you are, it will be blue smoke. I bet that is the reason the cop pulled you over.

the ticket says

"smoke/visible particulates"
"utah req'd - 60 days" (this one is for the different state plates vs license)

also the cop put that the car is a celica when its a corolla.
wonder if that will help me at all.

Well yeah. Cause it its blue smoke than its oil, but if its white it could be coolant or oil, but deff. oil if it blue.

this is why its registered in a state that doesnt suck ass.

so im thinking immediate turbo rebuild to try and fix the problem.

never over heated a motor because im not a fucking moron, so i have not blown a water seal. I have lost AN apex seal on a motor that was build from scraps just to get the thing going. other than that, no issues in 6 years of rotaries.

back on point, you should get the turbo checked out because if it is making blue smoke, that means its burning oil

Water seals aka baloney seals will let go without overheating.  Others would have you believe differently.  I watched one let go when the car was sitting idling not even to full temp, zero cooling system problems until.

Oh and just so this is clear
blue smoke is oil burning encase you missed it

yeah, they let go when the seal is pinched during the build. it may hold water for months before it finally leaks... or if the plate or housing is pitted or damaged.

and true, blue smoke is burning oil, but white smoke CAN be burning oil or coolant.

Title: Re: got pulled over
Post by: oinesra on November 10, 2009, 06:36:30 PM
Blue smoke is burning smoke

White smoke could be burning coolant or burning oil

Oil is honey brown or black but burns blue or white

Coolant is green or orange or yellow or blue or pink but only burns white.

White smoke could be coolant or oil, but if he didn't see it he has to ask the cop.

Did it say on the ticket what color the smoke is?

Get a license for the state it's registered in.

Then you are a visitor.

i had it setup perfect. my AZ drivers license didnt expire till 2060 (paid an extra 12 bucks for that luxury)
then i got out of the military and decided i need in state residency for cheaper tuition (dumbest thing i ever did)
so i got a Utah license to prove i lived here. then i went to a private school that doesn't even care about what state you're from.

now im dealing with this bullshit.

time for a road trip back to arizona.
Title: Re: got pulled over

green smoke is burning coolant, why else is coolant green? oil burns black and water burns blue, crayola wins

Alot of coolant is pink/red now.  Ive not seen any pink/red smoke.  Must be oil burning = blue smoke.

ok i just swapped in the mhi 14b that i bought off this guy.
now its like below zero outside and the car seems to be smoking 10 times worse.
you think its the turbo or my rings are fried.

i think im going to swap the ebay turbo back in and see if its still this bad.

haha the car is gray. which means if you see white smoke with a gray car in the background it looks blue.
Title: Re: got pulled over
Post by: Joseph Davis on December 10, 2009, 12:34:51 AM
Start the car when it's dead cold.  If you can rev the car in the first to second minute and it smokes, ring lands.  If you can rev the car but it doesn't start smoking until after the first or second minute, the turbo is bad (or needs a restrictor).

The logic behind this is that the turbine housing/downpipe isn't hot enough to burn the oil being leaked unless you give it a minute or two to warm up.

I say there kind sir - fuck you.  Lucas > American wiring of the same era.  The relays were slightly worse than American, but all the problems with them were because they came in CONVERTABLEs WHOSE TOPS WERE LEFT DOWN WHEN IT RAINED.  If you ever owned a (or multiple) fastback/hardtop british car you'd know better.

If you want to bag on some shit, try Italian wiring.
