Title: Towing twins
Post by: dvst8r on December 01, 2009, 02:58:56 PM
Here is a set of twins and manifold I built over this last weekend. It is a GT35R over an S366. Still have to finish the cold pipe, and pipe to intercooler. No shots during fab, and no good shots of the manifold, but it looks just like the last one I did.

I know you will all love that I cheeped out and just did pie cuts on the hot pipe.  O0

I will try to take some more pics next weekend, or whenever we actually get around to installing them.

Yeah it started life as a big CLR, and I needed a tight CLR. Lazy pie cuts ensued.

Yes they are, it's the baby set. Kinda working on an A&W theme, get a whole family of twin sets.

Eventually, but first we need to find a cracked 53 block to replace this as a mock up motor first.

Fuck yeah i wish I had a 24v ISB laying around for mockup. Can't wait to hear the results once it's running.

I have a mockup head, just need to find a block, that motor is a good running 24v, need to get something that is just a block and head.

Your post actually made me LOL to the point that my co-workers were looking at me funny. Yeah with the poor flowing heads, especially the 12v's we need the pressure ratio's of "boost while you boost" to move enough air to make any sort of decent power.

Fuck ya Brett!, the six leaker needs twins in a bad way but.....................................

As much as I love the mig madness I would love to see you break your tig out one day and show off some of those skillz.

It will be on the winter project. These twins are just cheap and fast.

The hott pipe is the only part needed to do something like this?????

That would be badass to have a compound turbo set up on a honda....

Dumb?  But small turbo on top of big turbo????  Right!
Title: Re: Towing twins
Post by: dvst8r on December 02, 2009, 10:36:11 PM
The cold pipe is sort of pictured, we were just missing the coupling boot. So you need a hot pipe and a cold pipe, for compounds.

Not sure what the point on a honda would be, other then the I don't think it has been done factor. High PR and low flow is exactly the opposite of what a honda needs.

That setup is probably good for ~75lbs/min at 50-55psi. Where as the bottom charger all by its self is good for 82-85lbs/min at ~35-40psi

It would be more for the wow factor.....  And to be different.....

The last picture is the most complete shows the: Hot pipe, cold pipe and down pipe. The secondary turbo's (small turbo) outlet goes to the intercooler, the air filter goes on the primary (big turbo)

Looks killer. Please keep this updated. I'm really wanting to know how the tuning goes with the twins and p-pump. I'm building something close to yours for my f350.

This particular set of twins is going on an 01 24v Dodge. It is the test mule, it has had about 5 different twin sets, and at least that many singles too.

The P-pump truck is going to be a little less street friendly.

What about the tuning are you wanting to know? I have done a couple twin sets for p-pump trucks already.

Are those turbos internally wastegated or are you planning on running a couple external wastegates or are you gonna be a badass and just say fuck a wastegate?

Starting with the fuck a wastegate, then if it loads the secondary too much, we will add an external gate from the manifold to the hot pipe. The truck it is going on doesn't currently have big enough sticks, to worry about over spinning the bottom turbo.

i do like the lazy man 3/4-cut  pie cut  :noel:

Reminds me of the lazy man's reducer I used on my EF. Cut 4 notches in a pipe & weld.

Shit looks nice. Don't be lazy with the picture taking, however.

Yeah I don't even on a camera other then my blackberry. The pics were taken two days after by the owner of the truck the twins are going on. I have never been much of a picture taker for anything, so it is tough to get in the habbit, of bugging the wife for hers before I go out and then to actually stop and take some pics. I will try to take more in the future.

yea, especially when you have to put so many new parts on it to handle the extra pressure.  it ain't wort it at all if you ask me.  plus you have all that extra room in the engine bay to do what ever the fuck you want with.  there ain't room for shit on my IDI

You can usually find someone selling one of the ATS kits for the IDI's

already have one.  it frees up some of the restriction in the down pipe.  but the ats turbo stuff still ain't shit compared to adding twins to a cummins

That is true. I have never driven one but I have heard a few say that the ATS turbo IDI is stronger than the early stock powerstrokes.

Just talked to Brett and the twin setup got bumped to next weekend. The truck owner had something come up this weekend.

We went to bri's parents for dinner, and I fell asleep on the couch, woke up at like 11:30pm and just went to bed. I was super lame. Got up early the next morning, and drove to Kelowna to see my parents, stayed there a couple days, and then went home.
