I'll try to make this brief.
Signed up with TW 7mbit cable internets online through a chat window. The guy that took my order told me $29.95 for the first 6 months, then it would go up 5 bucks.
Dude arrived on time, hooked my shit up. Loaded google and a few other sites and I was happy so he left... I did a speed-test and was only getting 1.5mbit. Not only was it slow but it was fucked up as hell.
I called to bitch. They set me up with the 1.5mbit service instead of the 6 I was supposed to get. Told me it would be $35/mo and would go upto $55 after 6 months. I told them fuck that I'm paying what I was told I was gonna pay. They transferred me, then they of course transferred me - retelling my story like 5 times. They didn't believe me but I fortunately saved the chat transcript.. I had to deliver the chat transcript in person to a place downtown and they said they'd try and take care of it and call me in the morning.
3-4 oclock rolled around, no call so I went downtown again and dropped of my modem and told them to disconnect it.
Fast forward to today - I guess a manager found out about my situation and put his foot up some asses. On wednesday I *should* be getting 16mbit service for $35/mo for a year and it may or may not go up after that (no contract)
im giddy about getting super fast interwebnets.

I get free 6mbit service from the neighbors, however most of the time my DIY bi-quad wifi antenna can only eek out a 10db gain so I don't always get that. That's what I get for living 5 house away from them. :'( I'd get a 16" dish to double it's power, but that would be super obvious...
Around here bandwidth really means nothing, since you can't usually use it for what you want. I can't do more than 50 torrent connections, or do anything for 3 steady hours, w/o them disconnecting my modem.
16mbit of freedom would be pwsome, i envy you.
-
I have 10 MBit service and it's awesome, 16 would be killer.
-
been downloading torrents at 3mb a sec. its pretty sick. i remember downloading at 2k/s with my modem back in the day, now i get 3000k/s+. would have never imagined.
-
i-fiber = i-fail !
had them for six months cant stand it. i can do four speed test there all different and all lower then what i pay. pissed and wined, nothin ever happens cause there pretty much the only game in town. fucking bullshit, this month i cant see there fucking DNS half the time, they just keep telling me the problems on my end. WTF ! type in "google.com", nothin... type in "72.14.213.147", jackpot, how the fuck is that on my end?
-
ahh the good 'ol days when it took 30 min to download a 3mb mp3 off of edonkey or morpheus
-
I doubt he just randomly found this guy to get his internet on aim or yahoo.
Most web chat customer service have the legal shit clearly posted.
-
I dont quite get the chat log thing. I know its illegal to record voice comm without consent... But does that mean text chat has he logging implied? Why arent we at the point where voice recording is implied? Legal nogs chime in
the chat thing I was in had an option to send an email of the log to myself so I did. The chat-box was opened from the roadrunner home page but the lady at the office said something about them being a 3rd party. Doesnt make sense but whatever.
If I don't get solid service I'm not keeping it. If I have DNS issues, I have some at the office I can use.
-
There's also OpenDNS and google's DNS servers (easy to remember, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
-
easy for me to remember, my router has no way to tell dhcp to use "this or that DNS" (fuckin linksys) witch is fine other than configuring every machine and it seams slower than there DNS.
-
4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 are fast DNS servers.
-
good to know on those DNS servers ;D
speaking of routers, I got a re-man NetGear WNR2000 off of ebay and it's nice for the price (like $32 shipped)
My Gigabyte wireless N card didnt work for shit with my ASUS router, works perfect with the Netgear. My wife's netbook hated both the ASUS and our Belkin. Works perfect with the Netgear as well.
-
I signed up for the Charter 7mb service, went to speedtest.net and it clocked 13.9mb/sec
I'm happy, and I only pay $29/month. :noel:

thats what we get here for $49/m, it's bs thats for sure.
I'm waiting for the day midco gets the ok to move into fargo(so far just in west fargo) and watch cable one go out of business locally. midco has 25/mb for the same price as cable one's 5mb.

I think I'm gonna call soon about upload speed. That's what I really want changed.

you know what you don't probably have to call Time Warner. You could probably blame the Nazi server you had ping to. NaziVille WI?

Every thread where ISP is mentioned invariably segways into a circle jerk of speedtest graphics.
It's like Godwin's law, but lamer and more predictable.
