I have to get my PA inspection next month and I live in a County that requires emission inspection. Have any of you

's had to do this with an OBD1 conversion in an OBD2 Chassis? I just finished recently and it would suck to have to switch injectors and ecu...
Will they test it as OBD1?

Luckily Butler county only has a "visual" emissions in their inspections. They check to see if something resembling a catalytic converter is there, and that's it.

What year is the car? Afaik it's against most states' laws to put an engine older than the year of the car in it.

It's a 97 Civic with the original engine...only built...

Will they test it as OBD1?

I'm in Montgomery County PA. If your car requires an OBD2 test, thats what they'll test it as. There is no visual inspection, they just plug into the diagnostic port and check for codes. If there's no codes you pass, if they can't test it as an OBD2 you will fail.

My Mustang passes emissions with no cats with an OBD2 test.

forgot to mention, the emission controls must all match or be newer then the vehicle. Meaning that you can have a pre-obd vehicle with an obd2 engine as long as you have all emission standards of the pre-obd vehicle. The biggest problem if your car is 96 or newer (OBD2), it is not a sniffer test and must be tested through your ecu, which obviously wont work if your ecu is not OBD2. Any friends that work in shops?
Whitey.. not contradicting but just so noone fucks themselves over, if you have a code and clear it you will not pass the test until all readiness monitors are set (which may throw a code again), make sure you dont clear your codes and then bring it in. And there is always a visual on emission controls even in Monroe county where there is no emission testing.

We need to set up a PA meet for this summer sometime.

Where in Monroe County do you live? I'm not too far from you, maybe an hour at most in Lackawanna County.

Up where I live they have a visual emissions inspection and they test the gas gap to see if it's leaking, but other than that they don't even plug into the diagnostic port. I guess it all depends on where you live.

your best bet is to change it back ...R.I. just got new machines that are more sensitive then the old ones and i failed my emissions test ... i got 30 days to get it to pass ..and it had a cat and stock muffler

yea your probly going have to change it back. Sucks a lot since the newer machines are more sensitive my crx failed on idle luckly the did something and the thing pased. sucks the other side of the river doesnt have emissions and i can throw a stone over that river from my bed room.

Remember kids: if you drive less than 5,000 miles a year your car is emission exempt. I actually drive my Mustang less than 5,000 a year so its exempt but if I'd start driving it more I'd probably just get another instrument cluster.

LOL that's funny if my brother law, who lives in Spokane, knew that he wouldn't of givinen me his '82 Mustang GT. ;D

He has been going through the hopes of maintaining a P.O. box in another county and license the 'stang in that same county to get around emissions only park it and drive maybe 10 mile a year. :yes:
