Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

When I was living in West Germany ('70s and '80s) every time tanks or other tracked vehicles would be used for maneuvers there was a guy riding in a jeep following the column.

He had to record all damages made by the tracked vehicles.

So that who ever owned the damaged property they were compensated for the damage. Even if it was a minor scratch on some cobble stone roadway.

This.  Had to have rubbertacks on it. It was quiet.

And it doesn't make you 2" shorter riding in it. Bare tracks on asphalt suck.   That pivot turn would have murdered the concrete.
