DIY high flow cooling fans
« on: July 19, 2009, 09:27:10 PM »

The miata is cooling pretty good, but there's always room for improvement. Friend bought six ford cooling fans at the junkyard. (mark VIII, taurus, all the good ones) Put one on his suburban today and it's 10x better than the old mechanical. Colder A/C, cooler temps, more HP. Had a pile of high flow ford fans sitting around so I measured and found one was about the same size as the main fan on my miata. Well, the maita fans are pathetic. Only thing good on them is the shroud design. So.....

Gonna put a Mark VIII fan on my 86' Trooper tomorrow! It's just barely gonna fit, but it should go.

OEM fans seem to work best.  I put a towncar fan on the mustang, had a decent aftermarket one that was on the car and it when we got it.  Both were the same diameter, The OEM fan cools much better, draws less amperage, quieter, and had less height from the radiator

Those fuckers flow a ton of air, but the one on my old K5 seems to draw lots of current.

Twas a little trick I picked up many years ago looking onto doing a V8 S10.

Mark VIII fan was gonna be a bitch to get on the trooper. So I put some other fan, I believe a taurus fan. 16" fan w/shroud 2 speed. Somebitch kicks out some air. had to reset the parking brake.  :mexi: Gotta make some new brackets to mount it though, but that's tomorrow. Plus it already has a pair of electric puller fans on the condenser, so this little 16" fan, combined with a pair of 12's, should keep this 2.3L cool.  :P

I'm locking this. Nothing's been fabricated and it didn't fit. Case closed.
