Another day at work
« on: June 21, 2010, 02:18:34 AM »

Got a call for a motorclub winchout.  Guy was driving his 08 Dodge 2500 HD down the side of the Absarokee Mountain Range when he dropped the front right wheel off the side of the road.  He got a ride down the mountain to his Dad's house and got a ride back up to where the truck was with his dad and truck hoping to pull the truck back on the road...

Truck was gone when they showed up

Unfortunately, the truck went over the edge 300 feet below while he was gone...truck could have easily gone another 1000 feet down but stopped rolling after taking out a couple of trees and digging into the dirt.

We brought our 1980 chevy winch truck with a Holmes 440 for the pull and our Ford F-650 for added support and the tow back

Hooked a winch line up to me, and i carried two straps and chains down to the casualty for rigging.  Legs were definitely beat the next day after 6-7 times up and down the hill.

Little bit of a hard pull trying to get over the trees and boulders

Rigging

Almost there after a couple of hours of slow, careful winching

Once up to the top, we hooked a winch line from the 650 to the front and lifted the truck up and swung it around

The truck fired right up, and the frame was completely straight, so we dropped the shaft and hooked up for the 140 mile tow back to the shop.

Weather was great long enough for us to get the job done...beautiful area

Interesting how the guys lease was up on the truck and he owed overmileage on the truck...

Sorry about the huge pictures, just trying to give some detail

Yeah that wasn't an accident. Look how wide that road is. If it was an accident then the world would have been much better off with the driver going along with it. Even if it is an insurance scam hope he realizes that insurance will probably not pay out full on it and he is still stuck with a nice chunk. Unless he had gap coverage, but I don't know if they offer that to leases.

Riiight, it's a motor club so they probably got like 75 bucks for the call.  Fuck this winter we had a boat fly off a trailer and a 1 ton dodge on its top in a ditch 60 miles away and we got paid $200 from cross country to do it.  Though we did charge the people $300 extra.

Wow didn't realize we had so many towers on here...ya, it thats a homes 440 on the chev.  Was a cross country call, happened saturday night, they told us to use whatever equipment it took to get it out.  Just the mileage up there was 140 miles at $4.25/mi for each truck.  The bill stands at just over $5200 right now with $35/day storage, we told XC that we were putting it through insurance.  Guy had a pretty convincing story that it was an accident, so I think ins is going to be completely covered.

We generally get paid for these jobs up here, suprisingly.
