Ban the tyrant!
lol ;D
I don't see how people can comfortably put every cop into an "asshole" category without feeling like a moron. There are good, decent cops, and assholes -- just like with every other profession.
Oddly, my most pleasant experiences with cops have been either when I got a speeding ticket (55mph divided highway, was doing 70-ish because I forgot it was a 55, was snowing a little so he wasn't being too lenient), and when I've had conversations with state troopers. Almost every local cop I've dealt with has been a complete dick to me (pulled over for a stock exhaust because the factory tip is "shiny" several times). The times when I wasn't doing anything, they were assholes. The times when I actually broke the law, they went out of their way to make things go smoothly and not ruin either person's day.
I still feel like labelling most cops with the asshole category, due to the "above the law" mentality, and their fellow officers covering for their ass when they get caught doing stupid things like beating someone up for no reason (or the ridiculous "you can't videotape police officers" thing). Yes, there are bad cops, but when good cops protect the bad ones, they become bad cops too. Although in my area, one of our police departments just fired 8 officers for various corruption, so that's a start.
Oh, and when I get tailgated by them (usually while going 5 over), I touch the brakes to light up the brakelights, and slow down. I've gotten it down to 15mph on a 30mph street before he realized that I'd speed back up when he got off my bumper. If he had an emergency to get to, he'd have his lights on. Since they weren't, he has no more right to tailgate me than anyone else. As far as I'm concerned, I'm being safer, by travelling at a more appropriate speed for his following distance while giving him room to pass me.
