So I was talking to my dad the other day about how I needed a new comp and he mentioned he had a few laptops from work laying around I he'ld send me the best condition one but Ild have to have it reformated since it was password protected from work and he forgot the password. He also sent me a wireless card so I could take advantage of wi-fi. Got it yesterday. Its a 2001 dell Latitude. Fuckin clean. Not sure about it being a replacement comp but it'ld make a sweet tuning lappy. My question is this... how much and how hard would it be to reformat the fucker and get it going? If its more then im thinking Ill prob sell it for a bill. Also, If anyones interested in buying it up LMK.

It's not hard at all. you just need a copy of XP. pop it in and boot from the CD.

That easy??? As soon as the comp turns on and runs through DOS, a prompt pops up requireing a pass. I was thinking I wouldnt read the disc that soon in the start up?

restart the computer and keep pressing f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8 f8

the safemode prompt will come up press boot in safemode and then let it load up then it will come up

click administratior account if its not password protected your in

then go to user settings and delete the password... or change it..

this will work about 90% of the time

hardware pass.  You need a serial connector, a steady hand, locate the chip with the hardware pass on it and you need to pull the data off of it using a program that can pull the data off the said chip.  It's not easy shit.

Bummer  guessing its gonna be pricey and not worth my time....

What is your Service Tag number? It should be 5 characters long
