The HF press is a pile of shit.  I have one, and it will get the job done, but it is a pile of shit.  The frame flexes a lot.

I think I would almost rather build one than buy one.

The 12 ton is what I have at home, and it is indeed junk.

We have a cheap ass cummins tools 20 ton at work.   It is much better, but we had to take the cylinder apart too keep it from binding at full extension.

i would make the biggest press you can yourself. most 20 ton presses are like $300, theres like $250 worth of material in them, so they paid some dumb fuck $50 to make them.  :mexi:

you could buy steel yourself and make a large 15ton a-frame bench press and put legs on it. just pay a machine shop like $50 to drill the uprights precisely as the squareness of the pressframe is critical. then goto surplus center and buy a real 10 ton cylinder for $150. make sure everything is absolutely square.

machine shop: $50          (if your legs are 24" or less any machine shop can drill them in high tolerance)
steel:             $200        (4qty, 2' long 3x5 channel is ~$75)
cylinder:         $150        (https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009122100200802&item=9-6260&catname=hydraulic)

pressing wrist pins in your bathrobe:   PRICELESS

or if you just need to press wheel bearings and the like, a C-frame press is much more versatile and cheaper to build. however if your not a good welder id find someone who is to weld it. squareness is still an issue with this design but can be handled easily with adjustable bolts or guides (no precision holes)

you'll notice this one is 15tons with a 6 inch throat http://www.powerteam.com/catalog/136.pdf

a whole bunch of homemade shit http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=235784&showall=1

btw i would put SPX on par with enerpac any day
