hydro clutch problem
« on: March 26, 2009, 12:26:45 AM »

ok so friend of mine bought a car... shortly after the clutch went out...

so i had em take it to someone i know to change the clutch./.

car ran and drove fine.. but the clutch pedal eventually got soft as fuck.. and car not driveable...

dude who changed his clutch blamed it on a bad pp..

so they changed out the clutch a 2nd time with a new clutch kit (took old one back)

but then it came back again....

so the kid changed the master cylinder himself.. and it went away...

but now its coming back again...

original slave cylinder was leaking and was replaced during the first clutch job...

can air be getting into the system without fluid leaking out...

where can the fluid leak from where you cant see it?

he says the master cylinder fluid level dropped just a little...

he needs to bleed the system of all the fluid and replace with new Dot3 or Dot4 brake fluid. Problem fixed if there's no leaks.

I wonder if the line to the master cylinder is not completely sealing.

There is a roll pin that keeps the hose hooked up to the master cylinder.

Or could be as simple as the slave bleeder is cracked open a little.

I'd flush the all the brake fluid in the system for hydro. clutch then see how the pedal feels.

Then check the o-rings on either end of the clutch hose.

If hose is nylon it possibly have a small crack b/c people do not know about the roll pin when take the hose off the original M/C and break it trying to force the hose off.  ;D

Go over everything, if you can get the slave and master covered under warranty, do it, blow the line out, use fresh flutd and you should not have a problem.

Personally, I try to replace master and slave together, many times, replaced one and replaced the other shortly thereafter

ford liked to use vinyl line for clutch line on their v8's
Ya and there are 2 different ends too boot. I put a tranny in a 91 explorer for someone and ran into this. The tranny i used came from a 96 ranger and needed a brass end but the line on the truck had a plastic end so it wouldn't clip in. I tried making a line using a compression fitting but that didnt work. I am thinking about just running a braided an line but that would require yanking the tranny again.
