Problem formatting an SD card.
« on: January 20, 2010, 05:50:49 PM »

I've been trying to format an SD card in FAT16 for use in a tuning module. I'm trying to format it in Vista and keep getting a message saying Windows can't complete the format. What the fuck is the deal here?

I just opened the package this afternoon, the card is brand new. It will format in FAT with 32kb allocation. I need too format is in FAT with 16kb allocation. That is the only way the device will recognize the card.

How large is the SD card?

FAT16 is limited to 4GB *on win2k and up

FAT16 is limited to 2GB to work with MS-DOS and most other shit.

Yeah, no clue how Vista handles it.

This may be a dumb question...do you have it "locked" so it's read only?

It is a 2 gig card.

It is not locked, I have formatted it in other formats. The tech support people said it needs to be formatted in FAT16 for the Bully Dog tuner to recognize it.

Because Vista was designed by fascists in Bellevue, WA. that don't know what a V8 is or how to tune them. Now who's punting their own scrotum?

Alright, I'm still having a problem with this thing. Here's the scoop: The SD card is basically the RAM for a Bully Dog gauge tuner. My friend can't find the original card it came with so we got another one, formatted it, and manually loaded the files. The ECM still won't communicate with the tuner though. I keep getting a CAN line error.

Has anyone ever used one of these things?

So are pushrod V8's....the 1870's LOL. The tuner is not compatible with the 5.7L It took 3 techs to figure that out. I told one tech guy there was p0rn and OC in it for him if he could help me get it to work and he was like "What?". The one for that engine has been discontinued by Bully Dog.

Who else makes a tuner for a 5.7L vortech 350 from a '97 Tah-whore?

FAT16 is still very prevalent in embedded systems. It all has to do with address space.
