So I am at work today(Home Depot) and there is 2 little kids jumping around on our display tractors, nearly tripping several times. Mind you, this is right next to a pull behind aerator...

I ask the kids to quit politely so they don't get hurt.

I come back ten minutes later the them doing the same thing

"OK Come on now guys, try to settle down a little, you could really hurt yourselves" The mom apologizes and takes the kids to the car.

All of a sudden some guy turns around and gets literally 3 inches from me, standing toe to toe and says "Why don't you talk to me like that, huh?" In my mind I'm going who the fuck is this guy?

Guy- "You think you can talk to my kids like that and have no consequences"

Me- "Sir I was just asking your kids to tone it down so they didn't get hurt"

Guy- Yeah, sure you were. You know your a jackass thinking you can just bully my kid around like that. Why don't you tell me to do something, huh?"

Me- "Sir, I don't appreciate your tone of voice. If you would like to continue this conversation, I'm sure my manager will be glad to sort things out with you."

Guy grabs my shoulder- "Your pretty tough calling your manager. You would do that you pussy.

I grabbed him by the wrist, told him to keep his hands to himself and then walked away.

Guy- "Yeah Walk away you pussy"

All this from a 40 yr old dude. What the fuck is all I have to say.

I can tell you with out hesitation, if something like that happened at work, I would ask him with a smile on my face in a very polite tone "if he would care to step outside, I would be happy to resolve this situation."

Fortunately for me the company I work for is owned by a couple of old cowboys, that wear ropers into work, and one has a huge gray handle bar mustache that even his wife can't remember him with out. As such if some one challenges you like that, no one bats an eye if your decision to handle it is what I posted above.

I am amazed that you could walk away, you are a bigger person then I.

It took a lot to walk away from. I get paid well for not doing hardly anything, so I can't throw it away just to punch some immature dad in the face. Besides that, I've never gotten in a fight in my life. Not quite sure how I wouldve handled that. I wish I couldve just layed him out right in front of his kids... that wouldve been awesome.

I've been through that at work. I just tell people if there in the mood to assault me I'll gladly call the cops and a lawyer, press charges and sue. Most of them don't think I'll do it until you push 9-1 and hover over the 1 and see what happens. Most of them calm down, a few just walk out.

Never throw the first punch in a situation like that, let them, but always throw the last one.

Hell, even I would've probably yelled at the kids to get off there, and I work with kids on a daily basis. You already now too that father would've had a field day if one of them tripped and split their head open on that machinery. Some kids are stupid like that, and if you don't yell at them firmly enough they'll just think its funny to keep doing it like running across the street without looking. Sounds like the father's a douche, and I can agree with others saying you're a bigger man than I am. I've been in similar situations before and just about lost my cool, and they weren't even in my face.

i see situations like this all the time. the dad was acting up because he knows your at work and cant do nothing about it. usually ill jump in and offer to take you place to knock that dad out. one time in line at home depot this black guy got all pissed off because the black guy behind the register asked hime for a id on his $1400 purchase. the customer got all irate and started threating the guy behind the register. i got so pissed off that i told the guy if he dident STFU i was going to knock him out. everyone got scare at me and looked at me like i am crazy. mind u where in the middle if the whitest neighborhood. the only 3 black people in the store and where going to fight.

No matter how innocent, Home Depot would can you if that's what that old fuck wanted, which means you should have layed him out, and/or never agreed to work there to begin with.

I've known many home depot employees, and have a store manager in my painting customer base. The store manager has NO sense of job security, because he knows HD is only a corporate powerhouse who doesn't give a fuck about people. Another example would be herding your customers through computers to check out because you're too greedy to pay some dumb fuck $7/hr to fuck up my change.

We get that a lot. Maybe that is the case in your area. I worked at menards and have shopped at lowes in fargo, and I will definitly tell you we are WAY better with customers than either. Its kind of embarrassing if I ever go to another store to be associated with them. If your ever in fargo, stop by, im sure u will change your mind.

i do through escalations all the time with customers..

-they call us out for THEIR stupidity locking their keys in the car..

-they get mad at me after i arrive when im trying to help THEM out with opening up their car.

let just say that there has been many times where I have threw keys inside the car, relocked the car and said fuck you.

In training they say that it will offend the parents and then they get pissed off even worse... I have talked to kids about horsing around several times and the parents always apologize. Also, when theres 150 people in the garden center, its kind of hard to pick out whos kids they are.

I would not have been able to keep my cool though I used to. The new meds I'm on got me flying off the handle all the time, I yelled at a cop just yesterday cause I confronted them about tossing a cigarrette butt instead of throwing it in the trash and they told me I couldn't talk to them about that.

Not this guy. I don't come off like a douche. Especially to some 12 yr old kids. This guy probably got picked on as a little kid and felt tough because he knew I couldn't do anything.
