Got a call for a motorclub winchout. Guy was driving his 08 Dodge 2500 HD down the side of the Absarokee Mountain Range when he dropped the front right wheel off the side of the road. He got a ride down the mountain to his Dad's house and got a ride back up to where the truck was with his dad and truck hoping to pull the truck back on the road...
Truck was gone when they showed up
Unfortunately, the truck went over the edge 300 feet below while he was gone...truck could have easily gone another 1000 feet down but stopped rolling after taking out a couple of trees and digging into the dirt.
We brought our 1980 chevy winch truck with a Holmes 440 for the pull and our Ford F-650 for added support and the tow back
Hooked a winch line up to me, and i carried two straps and chains down to the casualty for rigging. Legs were definitely beat the next day after 6-7 times up and down the hill.
Little bit of a hard pull trying to get over the trees and boulders
Rigging
Almost there after a couple of hours of slow, careful winching
Once up to the top, we hooked a winch line from the 650 to the front and lifted the truck up and swung it around
The truck fired right up, and the frame was completely straight, so we dropped the shaft and hooked up for the 140 mile tow back to the shop.
Weather was great long enough for us to get the job done...beautiful area
Interesting how the guys lease was up on the truck and he owed overmileage on the truck...
Sorry about the huge pictures, just trying to give some detail
