Yeah, thought that was kinda odd.  It's not OK to do that with devices...unless it's a phone?  I think they just dislike Apple.  Either way, good stuff.

This

You are both opening Pandora's Box and should be fearful.

How are you supposed to survive without overlord and savior Jobs deciding what's good and safe for you.

As long as the specs aren't garbage, I will pick this up September:

All it's saying is that IF you circumvent the protection, you cannot be punished.  The problem is that AFAIK nobody has successfully got past Moto's lockdown.  If you read the rumor that trying to will brick your phone -- that was false, btw.

If you want custom ROMs, get HTC :P

From http://community.developer.motorola.com/t5/MOTODEV-Blog/Custom-ROMs-and-Motorola-s-Android-Handsets/bc-p/4290

Quote
We understand there is a community of developers interested in going beyond Android application development and experimenting with Android system development and re-flashing phones.  For these developers, we highly recommend obtaining either a Google ADP1 developer phone or a Nexus One, both of which are intended for these purposes.

Quote
Securing the software on our handsets, thereby preventing a non-Motorola ROM image from being loaded, has been our common practice for many years.

Funny thing about that, the first phone I ever flashed was a Motorola V300 with the V500 rom.  I forget why, but there was some benefit.

The problem with the X is that the bootloader is encrypted. It's european cousin still hasn't been cracked a year later.

I agree. I want to upgrade from my Eris, but I don't want a phone I can't put roms on. Motorola always has some bullshit with their radio's.

Android is open, and the source code is available for every new version...

The hardware is what's not open.

I get what you're saying though.

Semantics...  Now they can't attempt to prosecute people, unless they "hack" stuff for copyright infringement purposes.

HTC Vision
Android (rumored 3.0)
3.7" 800x480 screen (no idea if it's LCD, S-LCD, or AMOLED...but due to AMOLED shortages, I'd guess S-LCD)
Rumored HSPA+ support (21mbps)
Optical track-pad

Not too much known, other than it's coming to T-Mob on Sep 9.

Oh sweet this fucking awesome phone came out!

4 months later...

This new fucking phone is announced that rapes everything.  God damn!

Phonefags should become an heroes.

Wait until Sept 11, two days after the 9th.  Technology has to play catch up sometimes, sir.

I got a phone I can tether.  Sometimes the internets fixes cars that are stuck on the side of the road.
