Its the rings. I had this same problem. Rpm's hit the V smoke would be some bad you couldn't see the car behind you.
Why does it matter when you WOT on compression test and remove the ecu removed? Doesn't the ecu control when you hit V?

You pull the ecu when you are doing a compression test because that way you arnt dumping fuel into your motor when you are cranking it over.

And what the hell is "V" do you mean vtec? Way to sound like captin wonder douch!

And why the hell havent you done a intro post?

Why pull the ECU when disconnecting the distributor accomplishes the same thing?

So...  This car still doesn't fucking run, so I have no idea if it actually was the valve guides or not.  Oh well, if it needs the bottom end rebuilt, at least it will have a fresh head to go with it.
