tuning for quick spooling and throttle response (t3 b18b1)
« on: October 27, 2011, 01:08:45 AM »

would running 20* timing at 5psi at 3000rpm increase the spool time as opposed to 15* timing at 3000 rpm.  I have always done the step retard in the past so with a quick spooling turbo at low rpm the timing drops big time which i suppose makes the throttle response not as good.

retarded timing spools turbos

I could see that if I wanted to build boost at idle but in terms of throttle response...  Advancing the turbo from vacuum to low boost seems like it would have better throttle response

Yea guy sure, retarded timing spools turbos at 1k rpm but not 3k. Makes complete sense.

Anti-lag is super retarded timing at your launch rpm 5-6k. That's not idle.

As a fun experiment, do a pull with your current tune, then retard the timing a few degrees, you will have higher boost the whole pull

Ya but the increase in boost wouldnt offset the loose in power from timing.  I will try to see - I am trying to get that free wheeling feeling but maybe only ball bearings will do that.

I never said it would. I'm just telling you how to spool a turbo faster. Statistically proven by statistics that prove it.

Size the turbo correctly, get a different cam.  A straight T3 on an LS is nothing you make threads about wanting to enhance the spool on.

This thread is :(
