Im going to just replace the one piston with a dime size chunk missing from it in my motor. I dont want to spend any money... so I plan on pulling a piston/rod combo from a spare bottom end, sticking it into my motor with the rings and bearings from the spare bottom end. I basically just need it to drive 400 miles, once its out in PA in can grenade whenever it likes since I have friends with trucks to tow it here (200 miles to jon VS 500+ miles to jon from NY)...
So basically, as long as the bearings are not visibly damaged, they should work enough to make less then a thousand miles? better to reuse the bearings from the motor its going into or the motor I am pulling the rod from?
And for the rings, all they can really fuck is the cyl walls right?
My thinking here is that gas alone for a tow costs more than I have paid for HG + bolts for this supposed blown HG. Now if I can replace the piston for "free" (not counting gas, time, etc etc) I won't cry too much. 100 out of 200psi compression beats 0 compression in a cyl any day IMO, I would have just slapped it back together had it not been blowing oil out every orifice at a rate of 1qt/20 miles lol.
