Head gasket or ring lands?
« on: February 21, 2012, 03:09:40 PM »

Havent leak down tested it yet but my compression numbers show 1 and 4 the same at 120psi(I know shitty but apparently the same as all the other miata owners. Cyl 2 and 3 are both 70psi. Car smokes like a coal powerplant worse than I have ever seen a car smoke and still hit on all 4 holes. I have put holes in pistons and had 0psi compresion and not had a car smoke like this, Thick whiteish blue smoke and doesnt smell like coolant or use coolant. The crankcase blowby also doesnt seem like its"excessive" I mean sure it has some blow by but doesnt blow the cap off or just pour smoke out of the breather ports. I am thinking it split between the cyl. Thoughts? Regardless its getting torn down tonight to have a look see.

Dumbass ricer didnt have o rings on the bottom of the injectors they we :)re just sitting there.1 and 4 were err snug and 2 and 3 were loose as hell. My guess is he got it into boost went lean and popped the gasket(it is composite) or toasted both slugs

Not if it splits right between 2 adjacent cyl in the fire ring. I am hoping atleast i really dont feel like dropping the crossmember to drop the pan.

First time I saw someone break ringlands (all 4), the car put out a nearly white plume of smoke. Thick & heavy like James Bond. I never saw the HG, as it was replaced when we changed the pistons. It really could be a combination of the 2 in your case.
