this thing has always sucked. you pump it like a million times and you get 2" in the air. i have done the loosen the valve pump 4 times, that shit doesnt work.

whats the deal?

there should be a plug on the side of the cylinder, maybe midway up? i always just filled it till it juzzum'ed out that hole, and called it good...

use atf, no need to bleed air or anything it will do that itself when your filling it up

yes, and i believe any hydraulic oil would work, included would be ATF IIRC?

i really dont think there is shit in there. i tipped it pretty far lol. i put some random oilly substance in there. idk, seemed to help some, but i really didnt need to lift it that high, just wanted the engine off the stand. i need to go to the store to get some other shit, so ill grab some real jack oil or atf, and give her an oil change.  ;)


oh btw. when i pulled the plug it gave a nice blow off...

Anything semi-compatable with hydraulic fluid should work. ATF & PS fluid could be a little rough on the seals, just fyi. They do make jack oil, I recall seeing it as an orderable part on imperial supplies website at work. ANd lol if you fill it with the ram out. They're similar to air shocks where the reservoir is usually around the ram's body.

this thing is still worthless. i changed the oil in it. its full to the plug. lubed the pump thing/handle. still fuckin squeeks, and still moves a MM at a time...fuckin awesome.

Well, idk about you but i leave mine outside. (pretty much wanting to fuck someone up for testing my gangster attempting to steal it from me).   If you dont shut the valve that holds pressure in the cylinder, moisture gets in there and fucks the seals up.  If the ram isn't fully seated, the top seal can get fucked up because of surface rust on the ram.    The little chrome ram below the handle can do that too.   

A "friend's" lift did that too because they had an engine suspended with it for a few months in the garage.  it's not climate controlled.   Ram got some corrosion on it and now it will drop on its own SLOWLY and takes forever to jack up.  Zero evidence of a fluid leak.

Harbor freight DOES sell rams you could probably fit somehow.  Idk.  I just remembered seeing them thinking that was cool in case you needed to pull a frame or build your own press or back hoe or something.   As far as rebuilding rams i can't help ya there.  My inner pussy says "replace it".   Hope you get it fixed.  Pulling/moving engines around without one is a bitch.  I've done it, would never go back to it if i could help it.

mine has always been inside with no rust on the ram. it sits with it in full compressed position. if i left an engine up in the air, it would stay up there for a good while. i have never noticed it loosing pressure.

Damn.   I dunno what else to tell you other than trying to replace the whole ram.   Either the pressure release valve is hosed or you have a bad seal judging from your symptoms and how well you said you take care of it.
