you can have both colors as a base clear. Or you can do either color as a single stage. Single stage paints of the 1980's were known for fading and oxidation, but todays single stages are realy durable. Imo id go single stage itll only save about 150$ in materials, but itll lay down smooth and have that "wet" look and its easy to fix if you get a chip or scratch

One of my autobody friends lays down the color, mix of color and clear, and clear.  It looks really nice, and if anyone keys the car pretty deep it buffs right out.  However, anything worse than that and the whole goddamn thing has to be repainted.

That's basicly what single stage is, urethane clear mixed with color. If he was gonna paint it a metalic color base/clear would be the only choice... Solid white is the easiest and cheapest color to paint.
