Blown headgasket d16z6
« on: May 29, 2009, 02:26:11 AM »

I recently replaced my headgasket in my civic with 234k. Today about a week later, the headgasket is blown again. Im pissed right now, all that hard work for nothing. Now I have to do the job a second time. I didnt use a oem headgasket, I used a fel-pro. I guess is more like fel-fail. Do you guys have any ideas why the head gasket blew again?

warped head or clogged/inefficient cooling system.

Pay the $40 and resurface the head
Pay the $10 and get a new thermostat
Make sure cooling system is out of air bubles and that fan comes on.

Ive used the metal 92-95 felpro head gasket on 3 z6's without issue.

warped head or clogged/inefficient cooling system.

Pay the $40 and resurface the head
Pay the $10 and get a new thermostat
Make sure cooling system is out of air bubles and that fan comes on.

^^I cant say it any better.  Buy a new gasket, do the above steps and youll be fine.

guys its obviously the gaskets fault. his 98whp was caused too much cylinder pressure and that junk felpro failed.

You're wrong
He was probably making 101whp as gaskets like to fail after 99whp on single slams motors.

I have never bought new bolts to replace the head gasket in my life, only when I'm planning to push a lot of boost and don't want to lift the head I upgrade to ARPs.

i stopped buying felpro gaskets after I bought an oil pan gasket that ripped and spewed oil everwhere. Not saying the gasket was the issue, just saying fuck spending 60+ on a felpro headgasket when you can get a whole gasket kit off ebay for the same price and its the same chinese mls headgasket.

Sometimes they're cheaper too. Called Advance Auto today to check on a gasket. $12, Honda has them or $9

Seems like 230k+ could stretch them out. The ones on my A6 had two stretched at 204k, then again the shade tree mechanic might have over tightened them.

Let me guess, it was for a b-series.  Ive had good luck with the d-series oil pan gaskets but Im o for 2 on the b-series.  Lake fuckin Acura.

Fel-pro gaskets work great for me.
I only bought them for b-series motrs and they work good as shit. Just clean old silicone off the oil pan and wipe all the oil off from the block. DON'T overtighten the bolts and you're golden. Almost all gasket failures are from a wrong installation.

The blue felpro b-sereis gaskets are way softer than the oem gaskets.  They squash out really easy, especially with an old oil pan.
