How/where can I store vehicles for at least a year...
« on: January 02, 2014, 05:16:57 PM »

Passed my interview for a job overseas.

I'm thinking of finding family and friends that will let me park my vehicles with them, but what are the alternatives?

I don't want to sell the s2000 or CRX. The civic and motorcycle I won't cry about getting rid of but I'd rather not... What sort of prep work should I do to keep them running?

Stabil in tanks, stable storage with people you trust like parents.

Or a storage facility where you have automatic payment from your checking or CC account.

Or say fuck it and give it away to few of use nogs.

If so I dibs on S2000  :noel:

Storage unit?

Find somewhere to stick a cargo container with them in it?

If stored outside a sealed unit (garage, driveway, etc), make sure your spray or put something in the engine bay and interior (air intake for heater) to keep shit from building nests. I've had squirrels eat through wiring harnesses & mice build nests inside interiors, exhaust pipes, and under the cowl. For the engine, just change the oil right away (any cheap crap), a healthy dose of marine sta-bil in the fuel, and mix the coolant a bit glycol-heavy with a decent brand antifreeze. Air up the tires & put the cars up on blocks if possible since some tires develop flat spots. A big container of that moisture sucker stuff will also help if any water leaks in.

Thanks all, especially hiprofile.

Wash. Change oil. Disconnect battery? Window and door seal treatment. Leather treatment. Fill tires and put on blocks.

Will the desiccant be bad for the interior? I have some very badass quality car covers so not too worried about moisture inside.

Maybe for a yacht that's good, but $585/mo for a car? In WI you can get an unheated car unit for under $100/mo, since stored cars really don't need to stay warm. Maybe exotics or classics, but not cars that actually get driven.

I'd take the battery out completely just in case it leaks or someone gains access to your storage. I also forgot, a bit of fogging oil in the cylinders is a good idea. Also if the brake or clutch fluid looks dark, it's not a bad idea to bleed all the old stuff out to help prevent rusting.
