my D16 Vitara/Holset build
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:06:51 PM »

figure i would post my build up again since i finally have time and money to get it back together. This is the specs on the first motor i built which lasted about 1000 miles of abuse and then melted a hole in a piston. Ill get some updated pics up soon with progress on the next motor and my brothers 93 CX hatch that we're doing a similar build with.

1990 hatchback DX
gutted, only door panels and dash left
d16z6
head decked 0.20
75.5mm vitaras (0.0045 p2w)
KMS block guard
FJT h-beams
ACL race bearings
new valves
3 angle valve job
minor port and polish
ARP head studs
xenocron DIY 4 bar map
chipped p28 on Crome
RC 750's
walbro 255
hy-35
stealthmode oil lines
splog made by Eville140 (very well made, great guy)
tial knockoff bov
Tial wastgate
LSD 6 puck dragger clutch ACT Extreme pressure plate with a sprung 6 puck
complete cable to hydro conversion using Hasports mounts (shitty DX trans for now till i find ex/si)
prothane motor mount inserts and homemade solid aluminum rear tranny mount
S&W 8 point cage
M&H Racemaster 25/8.7/13 mounted on some gold Lenso's

complete cable to hydro conversion, no half-ass'd brackets and hinges that still use a cable

death of the first clutch, 5th gear burnouts with DX trans  :noel:

and the demise of the first motor

no xenopoopie, im not sure if it was a bad tune or not, my turbo seals just went out before that happened and i found a lot of oil in the charge pipes and intake, plus i think it might have been partially user error because i pushed it pretty hard and that was like the fourth highway pull i did in a row without letting it cool for a minute.

Could the oil leak be a issue where you just need a oil restrictor?

i had a 0.065 restrictor, it was the chinky chinese tial bov that caused a bunch of compressor surge, but i couldnt hear it with the open downpipe, took the spring out and torched it till it just barely opened at idle, but by then the turbo seals were toast. i was just being a dumbass and driving it still while it puked oil, lesson learned.

any reason that the lsd clutch didnt work so well for you when it is rated over 400 ft/lbs... im looking to get one... but this sort of makes me question getting one.. i understand with the 5th gear burnouts but.... roasting a clutch in a day at that tq capacity?

it looked like a decent clutch, didn't see much of a difference between the LSD one and the ACT, and i know other people have had good luck with them,  i wouldn't recommend doing 5th gear burnouts with a DX trans with either of those clutches   8)
