I did this a few years ago with my kids for fun. Well this driver chip uses the same ports and inputs as a cnc machine. I have a few of these chips left over and I am running bigger steppers with some TIP120s.

just remember that CNC routers dont like milling aluminum. they burn up their bearkings and have a lot of play in them. (apart from taking all damn day) you CAN buy a spindle and swap that on a cnc router, but beware the cost for a good one will be several times that of your table & CNC system!
we demod one for the wood shop. it was baller but it didn't do aluminum well at all.

Never mind I can count from 7 to 8 pins  ;D I was just checking the cheapo stepper drivers and looking for something everyone can use for cheap. That way if a bunch of you guys want to build these I can help you guys out.

Here is the stepper drive I am going to recomend (and I am going to build one as well).

http://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-to-build-CNC-Mill-Stepper-Motor-and-Driver-ci/

This is as cheap and simple as you can get for drivers.

I have a line on a place that has a shitload of large stepper motors that I can get for you guys for about $10 a piece.

I still dont have any batteries for my camera so I dont have any pics of said motors but I have  8 of them for my own crazy projects  ;D They have about 40 of these at a local surplus place.

A friend and I are getting ready to build one of these.   4x4ft table, SmoothStepper, and Mach3.  We just got our hands on 3 sets of 6ft linear slides.  Baller.

i guess it would be pretty cool to make gaskets out of g10 with a cnc router, but I think its a waste of money unless its for learning or hobby, mat 500s go for about 5k and you can actually cut real metal
