i have always charged for basemaps cause i spent the time tuning the original car that i am basing their map from, i spent my own money on all of my tuning equipment and i spent years learning everything to be able to do it. i dont charge a lot, considering what is spent on the chip, packaging and shipping, i end up with enough money for a beer. and luckily i dont get those annoying calls or emails that their car doesnt run right. im sure their car isnt perfect, but i guess i managed to drive the point home that it was only meant for them to drive the car to a tuner.

you dont think everyone else did the same as you?  i've paid for all my stuff as well but i still refuse to make people pay for something that is a guess to which will run the car.  regardless its still a basemap.

but its also your time and your knowledge at work. i was being literal when i said when all is said and done, i can buy a beer. i would have to do a hundred basemaps a day to make a living with what i charge. are you saying you pay for the chip, postage and packaging? if someone came to me in person with their own chip and asked for a basemap, i would just give it to them cause i didnt have to provide anything except a few min to make a couple quick changes and burn the chip. thats good business, but all of my basemaps are sent halfway across the country.

also, people expect to pay for it. every single time i have been asked for a basemap the question is "how much for a basemap?" not "can i get a free basemap?"

A simple all motor build a basemap will run the car fine for years. Back in the olden days all we had was the mugen program and we cranked up fuel pressure as needed



Funny because really most of the b series stuff is making the same power as they did 7-8 years ago + maybe 10 hp. Its just more documented now due to the interweb. Southern california was trolling with 11/12 sec all motor street cars all on the same damn bin file for god knows how long. Skunk2 ran 10's on that mugen program and a vtec controller when they were B series


The boosted applications is where you will get yourself in trouble selling chips. In reality its not worth the hassle to make 10 bucks.

I agree your looking at about 6-7 bucks for shipping/chip/static bag/tape/gas and that doesnt include your time

And then Doug MacMillan tuned their car and they ran some more 10's.

Hakko 808 -> 3 min tops. Can be had for ~$120 on sale.


Braid, manual pumps, etc? All bullshit. Why waste your time.



With proper technique, an ECU can be socketed in about 5mins.
