Turbo XS UTEC
« on: August 24, 2009, 09:27:29 PM »

well i got the opportunity to "deal" with this "lovely" engine management system which brought me back to the crome days when i couldnt afford RTP.  Anyone who has used this system, what was your method to turn this program into less of a guess since there is no real time emulation?

I just had to put a base tune on it since he was using a MAF and is switching to a MAP considering he has an STS turbo kit.  The stock maf is limited to 5psi and 4750 RPM so we have to go to a map sensor and tune via speed density to get anywhere with it.

Just wondering anyone elses opinion on the software.

your telling me!!!

its the MSDOS of engine management.  regardless though, i didnt get to spend too much time with it today and unfortunately you cannot play around with it unless you are connected to the utec.

It really pisses me off that i cannot change the 0% column and that there is no tip in adjustments.  Not only that, but for some reason, i had no setting to change the injector size although i know there is a parameter for that in the open loop fueling table.  The basemap from turbo XS was setup for 550's so i just had to kinda roll with that.

The whole process is a pain in the ass tho.  stone age tuning ftmfw

ROM Raider has a UTEC plugin that I could never get to work.

There is a global injector recurve setting, as well as a deadtime setting.  You need to poke around a little.

yea he is getting a map sensor and a couple other things i advised him to get and then coming back to get real tuning done.  I wonder if there would be anyway to set up freelog with UTEC to enable at least some form of real time tuning.

he has to get a map sensor, AFR display gauge, boost gauge (including vacuum reading), and new plugs before he comes back but im going to read through the manual another time and get a little more familiar.

IIRC you can log the UTEC and dump into .csv file.  Microsoft Excel, or the Open Office equivalent, is your friend.

well from what i saw, you can log for 25 seconds and then review it.  But it doesnt really help me when i dont know the AFR.  I gotta do some reading on getting the UTEC to read AFR.  Probably an unnecessary time waster lol.

I really wish he would have bought a nicer engine management.  This shit is like bottom of the well tuning.

I've used it on a boosted 350z.  I took about an hour to get used to its interface.  It did what I needed it to do. Car runs good IMHO and does 3rd, 4th gear rippers safely.
