Need help: check engine light 2003 audi a4
« on: December 02, 2009, 02:00:11 PM »

does anyone know of a cheap, working method of getting something like the ross-tech HEX-USB+CAN cable.  I have been searching ebay for the China man cables but none of them are compatible with the ross-tech software - it uses its own and will not allow me to access the majority of the control modules in the car.  I know that I can get the $7 dollar cable and freeware but it will only allow me to change the light configuration and small stuff like that.  It won't read the DTC's.  It is a recession and they are asking almost $400 for it.

The car is my DD and running like absolute shit.  I'm trying to figure out what the problem is exactly but my old OBD2 scan tool does not work anymore because the car has the KKL+CAN setup.

Any help/advice would be great!!

Thanks!

I don't know anything about audi's or what scantool they need, but I know (if you can tolerate some idiocy) autozone will run their scantool on your car for free.  But maybe it doesn't work for that germanic crap.

got the coils recall letter.  Not that - car has new coils in it already.  I want the scan tool that does all the modules but don't want to pay the ross-tech price.

Robb.  Thanks for the link - will check it out and post back.

That has nothing to do with the fact that's it's probably coils.

This is the truth.  I put some coils in a VW yesterday that had them replaced with the old part # 2 weeks ago.

All vw COP are junk until sometime in 08 when they actually fixed whatever the problem is.

Can you provide more details?  I have an eBay pre-CAN 409. cable and the freeware version that supports it, but kinda need more evolved tools.

Yes,  Please provide a link or model number for the cable you are using.  I need one that replicated the KKL + CAN.  I know that you can buy the ross-tech license for $99 but I need help in finding the right cable which will allow those capabilities.
