Can't leave this one behind...

Seen a lot of people making their own log mani's on here so I figured I'd give it shot. This will be a minor upgrade from the HF manifold I was going to use, so I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on it.

Brace yourselves...

Home Depot plumbing elbows and tees. ~$7
Head Flange from Weir Technologies ~$20
T25 Flange from Weir ~$10

Flanges are in the mail, will finish up when they arrive.

For those of you who don't know, behold the glory that is sandblasting. Takes things that look like crap and makes them awesome. I'm also convinced sandblasting can fix ANYthing... but I digress:

Been a busy weekend! Got the manifold made, then my buddies and I decided we should try and get the turbo spinning this weekend too. So we made a down pipe, ran the oil feed and return lines, and fired it up. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
































The downpipe is touching the clutch bleed screw; will this cause any problems?

There was a LOT of smoke when we first started it up. Drove around on it a bit and the manifold started turning blue as seen in the last pics, but no worries. Had to make a copper gasket for the downpipe to seal it to the turbo better. It works pretty well, but could stand to be widened a bit more. Have the wastegate held open so the turbo won't spool too fast while driving. I'll just try to keep it under 4k rpms and part throttle. Downpipe is leaky as anything where it meets the cat, but I didn't spend a lot of time on that since I'll probably want to "upgrade" the cat. Any suggestions for a temporary fix?

That's some decent looking welds for a chinese welder. Which exact one do you have?

That is badass. Welds look pretty good. Could have used more heat in some spots. If anything, I would have ground and rewelded it just ot make it stronger, but it's probably fine.

do you screw the 90's into the T or do you cut the 90s to fit?

if you screwed the 90s did you also screw the Ts to eachother using an adapter?

i think i might make one of these someday, looks like so much fun  :somb:

No kidding. I so wanna do a turbo setup like this for a blow through setup on my 86' Trooper II, juts because it's so badass.

Had to make some repairs, developed a few leaks.  busted out the belt sander and flattened it out.  Also cut off the rounded part of the turbo exhaust housing to make it flat so the downpipe would fit better.

The elbows are screwed in.  I had to grind on the threads so they would screw far enough in (tapered threads on plumbing fittings).  There was a small piece between the Tees, but after cutting into it to add the turbo flange, I decided to pull it out.  Later on a hairline crack developed between the tees, but I pulled it off, ground a V and laid a FAT glob of fluxcore between them.   Been fine ever since.

And yes it is so much fun!

Big part of the reason why the welds look good is because I sandblasted them.  It really cleans things up.

that looks sweet but i wonder about how long the HD pipes will hold up to the heat. after working there for 3 years i just know the majority of shit from there has shit quality

Not sure about the internal diameter, it's just about as wide as the exhaust ports. 

And yea the pieces are definitely cast in china and whatnot, but they are pretty thick so I figure they can take some abuse.

i would honestly choose the hr manifold over this every fuckin time.   an even cheaper and imo better choice woulda been a y7 precat manifold cut before the cat and then a t25 flange welded to it.   the threaded ends of those street els are restrictive as fuck.  at least the y7 and hf manis have what might classify as a makeshift collector and are far kless turboluent than this huge piece of shit i see posted before me..

y7 manifold for the win  but i like the effort.  seems to  fit together well.
