You need an impact intinuator (sp?) to meet certain rules for deceleration. We put a lot of work into making it the right size, plus we have some taller drivers. We found out that most people just used whatever and the judges didn't really give a shit. Live and learn for next year.

Oh yeah, and we were supposed to be sponsored by Trojan, that never worked out.

Sorry your car reminds me of this stupid cartoon that fuckin conan obrian plays

SNL

all the cars look bulbous now, the rules changed so that you have to fit a much wider range size of driver, and they added more bracing in the nose.

To show just how out of touch with reality a ME is when it comes time to take the shit off the drawing board

Pretty much.  MEs are a group of people who obess over some small aspect (heimholtz resobullshit) to the exclusion of the total package or in fact basic requirements.  Some "get it," but they are always super intelligent and have a few years experience.

Pretty much that same as any other design project for engineering students.

We did a pretty basic design project last year, and although we ended up winning the competition, we had to mad dash redesign because we misinterpreted a rule.

It was a great learning experience IMO even though I consider myself to be a bit more experienced in teh real work of how things work than you average engineering student.

I really hope to get into the FSAE team when I finally transfer to finish up my degree.

Very true. We have a few IE/Systems engineering alumni that help the team, made sure that we followed all the rules and that all requirements were fulfilled. Annoying, but it paid off.

And that muffler was designed using WAVE, scored 102 dB on the sound test at 10.5k rpms and was used by 6 other universities at comp so they could pass tech. Don't tell me resobullshit :P j/k

Finished 29th of 124. Not a bad deal, considering the team was 100% new guys with zero experience.

nice work, here's the official results http://www.sae.org/images/cds/selfservice/243540387_Copy%20of%20fsae2009results.xls

p.s. there were only 91 teams that recieved scores, and its funny to see how many didn't make it through the endurance part
