Project H23vtec - JRSC - +12:1 compression and pump gas
« on: March 07, 2009, 02:07:38 PM »

I know you guys like project threads and I hope you guys know that i love learning new things.  Especially when its not everyday you see some idiot trying to run this kind of setup on pump.  Boost is very new to me.  I've always been an all motor kind of guy until i really started looking into the JRSC.  Its basically a wacked out NA platform but with a shitton more torque.  Well i'm going to test this project out with my 89x95 h23vtec.  I've done some modifying to the JRSC already and I have more plans once I can get my hands on a TIG and learn how to do aluminum.

well here are the plans for it and what i currently have
JRSC - sticking to the 5lbs pulley at first
CC head (stock cams and valvetrain)
89x95 h23 block configuration with total static compression of above 13:1 (has a thicker HG)
RMF Narrow header
3" dump exhaust

planning on getting bosch 1000cc injectors and an inline water to air intercooler.  My other plans for keep IAT's sane is to attempt the same type of design that LHT uses, but that will only be able to happen once i get a tig.  So basically having two intercoolers with water running to both.

As it stands right now, NA, the engine makes 215/178 power without the CC head and runs 13.43@104.  I'm hoping I will be able to get this new setup to dip well into the 11's but we will see.  I'm just a college graduate working two jobs in order to make a living and trying to save money to open a shop.  So this will probably take a little time so SHUT THE FUCK UP.

http://www.spankwire.com/Gianna-Michaels-Videos/video150511/

anyway, enough talking and on with some pictures.

^^ after 1500 miles with crower cams and eibach valvetrain from a head i got online.  fortunately I had a spare head!!

that is the gist of it.  I'm currently inspecting and measuring my spare h22a block and crank so i can rebuild it just in case this h23 goes sour with the addition of the JRSC.  That block saw 8500 RPM routinely.  I mic'd the rod journals and all of them are .0001 to .0002 of each other so that made me feel really good and the mains damn near match the OE bearing specs.  I measure the PTW last weekend for cylinder 1 and 2 and both meet the factory clearance.

I'm new to using these kind of tools and getting accurate measurements consistently  i guess is just going to take time and practice.  My PTW went anywhere from .0004 to .0010" all due to taking an average of 5 piston measurements and having one measurement in those 5 that threw everything off.  I'll get better.

more to come in the future.

You think you had the lash too tight, thats the symptoms that I see with rocker pad wear.

And fuck Spiker,

not really just feels good to curse at him even if I now broken H22 myself

upon installation the clearance was in spec.  I ran a few heat cycles and redid the lash and didnt check it again until i pulled the head apart 1500 miles later to do the h23 build.  The valvetrain was a little loud but i figured it was the uber stiff valvetrain.  Its really hard to tell what the problem was.  I dont think the head was in too great of shape.  After i pulled the head off, i noticed a beveled lip around the number 2 combustion chamber like it had been smacked, but there was no other visible damage and the valve seats looked like a typical used head with carbon build up should look like.

This is the dyno with the cams:

then this was the previous dyno with the stock cams when i did the EuroR IM testing

It was just bad from the get go and there are just so many possibilities of what it could have been so i just put it all behind me as a mystery that will never be completely solved.

Had the same thing happen to my shitbox.  Lashj to spec... Ate the exhaust vtec lobes worst (looked JUST like those). I swithched to Royal purple after doing a bunch of reseach about oil additives as a last ditch effort before going roller... 10-12 K later... Perfect.

Still..

And yes, Widebody is a nigger, ghod. It feels good to actually not be censored. I think ill leave the n bombs few and far between none the less..

i had been running mobil1 in the car for i dont know how long.  Switched to Amsoil and was still running that oil when i pulled it apart.  I have no idea if that had anything to do with it but it made me go on a tirade of reading about oil analysis and i now wont run anything but Torco with ZDDP additive.

i wish it was the m90.  M62 straight from jackson racing.  I've been keeping an eye on RMCdaniels thread on HT talking about his 500whp supercharger setup.  He is running an m90 off a thunderbird IIRC and also i believe he is also using a different screw set.  I think he is making close to 400whp right now so an eventual upgrade to the m90 and an adapter plate shouldnt be too hard to fabricate to the current JRSC mounting plate.

what size are those kosei's and offset?

they are 16x7.5 with a +42 offset

on my d16z6 I run a SC14 = 84cid.

Yeah hace the RMCdaniels build in my bookmarks both his original twincharge and is 500whp supercharger setups.

When using a SC14 out of a '95 to '97 Previa you can mount it seperate from intake and use an intercooler.

I can turn mine on and off anytime b/c of the a/c clutch pulley on it. ;D

i love those pistons whenever I see na hondas with them I want to know how the fuck that even works haha. Seems that shape would kill any "flame front" or god knows what when the combustion actually occurs... like chopping the explosion in half... im tired

I will do a build thread when I get  my d16z6/y8 with vitara and TT rods build done.

I'm having data transfer issues to my ePhotospace.com account takes a week to transfer 10 pict.

I use a borrowed wireless conection not a lan connection.

I'll try to transfer pict. next week from my office.

update but nothing really special other than actually enjoying DD'ing my car now.  If you read the first post you would see the clutch line setup hat i'm running that apparently king motorsports uses on all their civics and never have any issues.  Well they are going to be getting a call from me.  I'm gonna try and get credit or my money back because i switched to a smaller (-3an) clutch line and ALL my shifting problems went away.  I mean its night and day.

Beyond that, i paid 100 dollars for the line from king.  And they are not even DOT approved.  Today i paid for better quality line, DOT approved, and a better hose end crimp.

I've still got the wilwood check valve installed as well.

i'll post a picture of the King line tonight.

not to much to add but i put down a deposit for an AEM engine management so i'll be seeing that in the next few weeks.  Just gotta wait for my next paycheck.

Since i have the eCtune setup pretty much perfectly right now, i think im going to leave it in there until i have done the dyno tests with the ported head.  I dont think it would be a very fair comparison to run them against two engine managements and one that i have NO experience with at all.

I may need some help getting the AEM setup properly.  I have looked through the program before and its nothing quite like the honda systems.

i need to learn systems other than honda based. I've had quite a few people in the past ask if i have AEM experience and i had to turn them away because i have never touched it.
