fucking around last night, had a nice 6psi spike and lost power before i could let off. huge plume of smoke, smelled coolant. i prayed it was just a hg, but it just wasnt my luck.
car was tuned for 19-20psi, last boost readout on the Greddy Profec B 2 said just over 26psi :noel:

SOmeone say Spike??? :noel:
Shitty deal man

What motor is that a d-series or b-series?
Ouch ;D
SOmeone say Spike??? :noel:
Shitty deal man
Or some serious detenation

Damn that sucks. Now you and the mad scientist got to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried.
When sleeves crack like that, they are still a candidate for resleeving right?
MantisX
-
d16a6, SRP 75.5mm slugs, TT i-beams
it was definitely a spike, which would have also led to detonation since i wasnt tuned that high and only have a 2.5bar map sensor

Not if they go too far down...
-
Damn that sucks. Think it was detonation that killed it, or 26 was just too much?
-

psi is arbitrary
detonation fucks your world up

Thats good shit!

I know, that's why I asked.
I love my cast iron BP.

either gonna be another no-tec 75.5mm SRP setup and re-use pistons, no-tec 75mm setup with another set of used SRPs i have, Vitara setup, or just say fuck it and get a sleeved block
gonna have to check the funds after i get my taxes O0

I've seen people grind and weld the crack in preperation for a resleeve. so they could do that, maybe!!!

Sleeve the D!

Does your EMS not have overboost protection? That shit's saved my ass a few times.

DFIINATELY not worth it. For the price of fixing it (or rather nigger rigging it), you could have a complete shortblock.
-
Damn man that is shitty. Hopefully you can resleeve.

ya, it was set for 21.5psi. probably happened too fast for the ecu to catch it. hell, i dunno
-
Guess time to start a d series cracked sleeve thread. How does the piston look like on that cylinder?

havent got it out yet
it looked fine the last time i cracked a sleeve :P

Damn, that's weird. Run a dual port EWG with a MBC then. Or figure out what's up with overboost not working. My MS has some predictive feature to catch it if it sees boost climbing too fast and approaching overboost.
-
your boost spikes are my wg settings =p
good to see a shredded d though
-
Nice carnage. Well played.
-
did the tranny hold?
-
BONE I NEEDS YOUR HELPS
-
BONE I NEEDS YOUR HELPS
what did you fuck up this time??????
I don't play with H Fagoot trannys, that is Rob and Chubs job.
-
Nothing, actually its a D series
And I'm good with H's trans wise for the moment
B's mastered
-
Nothing, actually its only crabs

Actually transvestites have mastered my cornhole

lol, trans held just fine 8)

I say just do a vitara, cant be cheap and big power on pump. Friend of mine drives his at 450+ on pump 93 and its his DD.

dam man thats sucks i hate boost spikes

they are gifts from the boost gods :somb:
as a wise man once told me
Its not a spike, Its a gift

exactly what I was going to say.. my boost cut via ems is right above my limit.
-
it probably would have survived if you tuned it up that high, even knowing you wouldn't want to be there, but just as a preventative measure. Next time just make sure you have a 3bar map sensor and set the maps rich where the creep would be.
-
Tuner toys has ge sleeved blocks. Hit up craig and tell him you want the Rhmt discount. Im sure they will cut you a deal. I think a few months back they were doing sleeved blocks for like $800 now they are $1000. Worth a shot anyways.

really? thats a pretty damn good price. ill have to hit him up

With higher boost, you'll definately want the ems to crack the WG prematurely, if it has that setting. What ems do you have? Boost cut as always been terribly violent for me, like slamming on the brakes. I also use ign cut or fuel+ign, fuel cut is risky and not as violent. Any fuel that 'hid' in the ring pack or by the HG seal will still burn after hte fact.
I can't see hte pics from here, is it just the sleeves? Blocks & vitaras are cheap -- when the rod goes it gets annoying.

i was using Crome Gold. i had boost cut set, but it didnt save me. when it worked in the past, it damn near throws you through the windshield...
im working on a 3/4bar map sensor and then tuning higher portions in an attempt to have a small security net
-
sleeve it you Ryan
if Missy can buy shit at art shows then you should be able to sleeve the block so you dont have to take it apart again

MS2E + EWG + MBC = Best boost control Period. :noel:
-
no. the best boost control is none at all. its a d series.
build boost blow repeat.
he cracked a stock sleeve. not a big deal. grab a short block and do it again.
-
How much power were you pusing before this event happened?

yeah that was fun....too bad it turned out to be more than just the gasket.

No, operator error. If you had maxed out your MAP sensor with shop air and looked at your datalogs I bet it would read less than 21.5 psi. You should have set your boost cut to 21 and it would have caught you.
Breaking 300 whp with a pumpgas D16 is pushing the limits, sir.
Get yourself a $14 Motorola 4 bar and don't worry about this sort of thing happening to you again.

so my 350 or bust build is looking more like bust already?
and nice work on that block. good to see the arps hold
-
You can hit 350, sure, but in my experience past 300 a 9:1 CR D16's timing requirement falls off quick which is a sign that the fuel is running out of cooling ability. Set 350 as high boost and don't hit it every day.
Alternately, work on flow through the head and drop the CR down. Cam, valves, play fisty with the intake ports, basically drop time and dollars on the problem.

already have a new map sensor on the way for when i get it back together.
yes it was partially operator error, i dont deny that. i should have taken better precautions
-
You never know these things until you run across them. It's not like there's a decent writeup for any of this shit, and the software doesn't warn you about it's limitations.

no but they should. i might actually pay for it then

well thats why im glad you put your .02 in. something to think about for future builds
-

This time, don't max it out at 29psi. I'll make sure it at least holds 30psi before you get it.
BTW I never thought about the sensor limit. Not a bad idea to test the sensor electronicly if you're going to take it for all it's worth.
-
that is a righteous kill
