Seems like this is a constant issue with me. I pay all the bills, she stays home and watches the kids. But its to the point now where after the bills are paid we have like $200 left till the end of the month (paid once a month). Its time for her to get a job. But with two kids, she will have to make a decent amount of $$$ to cover daycare and some extra for us. And before someone says it, no she won't work the corner. If i can't pay her to get some, no one else will either.
-
If she has time for a job, tell that bitch to get one...
-
do the math VERY well because i bet in the end it will be hard to profit from her job, daycare is fucking expensive, gas from going to work, lunch (it doesnt matter if she is bringing her own from the house she WILL forget every-now and then and its almost impossible to not have lunch out in most jobs) , plus the fact that the kids dont get to be with people you trust and lose out on quality time might make it not worth it for her to work... making minimum wage sucks, she would have to make bank to make it worth it
-
You cant do a side gig? Welding stuff, car fixes, etc. Years ago I had a electronic issue that drove me up the wall for a few days. I ended up looking online and found a few for like 50 to 75 bucks a hour! Thankfully I tracked down the issue because I could have easily winded up paying for 2-3 hours for a single wire that dislodged from the shitty conversion harness
-
have her figure out something to do from home to make money and get her off her fucking snizz
-
If she's a good mother/housekeeper, do your kids and yourself a favor and let her stay at home.
-
We pay $1500 a month in daycare. Subtract from the total she will make plus gas, food, time to drive the kids around and the fact they aren't with their mother.

My wife is a stay at home and honestly i think it just works out better. It makes it much easier on me knowing hes with his mother and not a babysitter with 3 other kids he can pick up bad habits from.
See if you cant find some side work that you can include her in, have her look for 500 civic that need head gaskets or something like that you can flip over a weekend. Have her sell some weed or something.
-
Isn't this the same thread you started a couple years ago, only she wouldn't get a job or do the laundry before she got pregnant?
The hard truth here, bro, is she's probably never going to get a job, and conspire daily to spend your only $200 every month on whatever she wants, and then probably have a third kid you can't afford. You NEED to realize this is who she is. And then accept it, because the relationship has lasted for years and a couple kids deep, so it obviously works for you on some level.
Take charge of your finances. Downgrade vehicles if you've got new shit. Exercise thrift and self denial on some things. Have her sit down with you over the monthly bills so she sees the way money goes through the house. Tell her you need her help to get ahead so that you BOTH have an easy retirement, as well as yearly vacations and god help you a date night every week or three away from the kids.

Spoken like a married man. :noel:
-
Yeah JD, same girl, same problem. She has picked up watching a friends kid a couple days a week at $15 a day, but that's still not cutting it. She knows our finances probably better than I do, she actually pays all the bills for me and manages the money. I would get a side job, but working for the prison is an on call 24/7 job and I already get up at 4 am to make it to work on time. It doesn't leave much time to see my kids as it is. I was thinking her get a job while I'm at home. I normally get home at 3pm and the kids go to bed at 8 then I follow right after them. She has a car, but no license or insurance on it. We are gunna sell it to help fund Christmas. I have an 03 altima that is paid off, but she is excluded from the insurance. If she got a afternoon job and just make enough to make up the difference in adding her to my insurance the. A little for us, that would be great. Problem is talking her in to it.
-
She could easily waitress or do something like autozone from 3 till close. But I am 153% sure you won't talk her into it.
In you are in a shitty situation. Best thing I see is to cut some expenses till the kid starts school and then try to make her work 8-2 so she can pick the kid up.
-
Man, u need to get rid of shit the you don't NEED. Like internet, cable, home phone or cell phones, downgrade to 1 cell if u keep the land line. Dump netflix, don't eat out. Make coffee at home, man there is a bunch of stuff u can do to lower bills and save money.
-
There are some self-help finatial stratagies that actually help. As JD said, there are a lot of ways to skim money off other expenses. Your state might also have utility assistance, i just barely qualify for it myself. I stand to get an $800 yearly credit. But having her get a gig where she works when you're home is the best route. Bartending or waitressing can earn quite a bit per hour.
My sister was paying a lot for daycare when both worked 40 a week, then she dropped to 16 hours and her husband took up the slack. Luckly his job allows for tons of overtime. It sucks, but there is no free meal for us middle-class white people.
-
It sucks, but there is no free meal for us middle-class white people.
You could avoid having kids and picking up slack ass bitches that won't work. I have a nice house, nice new-ish car, my wife does too, I have a decent truck and an EF I'm building. It's cause I have no kids and my wife makes as much or more money than I do along with me fixing cars and tuning on the side to buy the car stuff I want.
-
If she doesn't make you money, make her save you money. Tell her to start couponing. So far, I've saved nearly $150 this month by saving a shitload of coupons and knowing how to use them at walmart. I always thought using coupons some some sort of peasant shit, but my woman talked me into it and when she showed me easy it was I was convinced.
-
Yeah she does the couponing thing too. We only have internet so I can do online classe(+$200 a month) and Netflix is our only extra expense. My phone and hers together is only $100 a month, and no landline, so she needs a cell in case of problems.
-
Fuck, dump netflix and internet. Tether your phone for free, and save money.
-
Accept that your life is going to be this way for the next few decades.
-
Start beating her. Blow that leftover $200 on whiskey.
-
Perhaps you should have planned parent hood better, 200 dollars to spend a month isn't enough, if you have some kinda emergency etc... Blame yourself..
-
Ht her an account on www.myfreecams.com (http://www.myfreecams.com) make her make that money

You're coming from the other side of the fence, though. Grass is always greener and such.
Both of you guys have evinced similar fiscal woes... compare notes, and whatever you have in common, stop doing it?

not working the corner, but you can always make vids of her finger blasting herself.

Actually, financially my wife and I are doing great. I just want to make sure we would still be doing great if she quit her job.

Look, you whined about your budget being tight when you drove a 4mpg status symbol to and from work, and I imagine you two went out all the time. I figured you took one eight of the advice in that thread and felt like you were hood rich, because you onviously found your niche, work hard, and make money.
Despite that you're the sort of guy who'd drive a 4.3 metric ton piece of shit, complain about money being tight, and not see the problem being you bleed $10 bills out of a thousand tiny orifices because you only recognize the 3-6 "big" bills you have. Climb down here into the world of self-sufficiency and I guarantee anyone who could drive an H2 to and from work mid-recession could provide for his family solo if he fucking opened his eyes and used his brain for thirty seconds.
I see a lot of talented guys with their head up their ass. You're one of them.
-
Sounds like op needs to man up and do a better job providing, your wife has her hands full raisIng your kid. She is doing the woman part of the relationship, you need to do the man part, if you want her to do the man part too she will likely done a strap on and pound your ass relentlessly. Just think, you could be the eny of Jay and NA mike.

JD, I'd hate to see what some of these folks would do if they were REALLY in the need.
Cleaning up a local pizza buffet at closing only to get the scraps everyone (including mexicans) else left behind.
I fucking hate spinach alfredo pizza, but I wasn't hungry.
-
JD, I'd hate to see what some of these folks would do if they were REALLY in the need
Probably puss out and cry for Obama to save them?
I grew up hungry and didn't care for it at all. I always cook whole foods, and large meals at that. My kid is a 5'8" 120lb string bean, but she eats more by herself than Robb and his wife put together. I'm not going hungry ever again and neither will my family.
-
Teh Lulz.
You just need to man up dude. My wife doesn't work and i don't make a whole lot. She clips coupons and finds out who will double coupons locally and we usually save 25-40 bucks minimum on groceries. Find the shit you don't need to buy, i now drink cheap ass piss water beer cause its better than no beer and if i want weed i find shit to sell or land side jobs. If it is a side job i usually overshoot what i need. In other words if my bag is 60 i try to at least get 100 so im putting something in my pocket.
Never allow yourself to get to a point where you are paycheck to paycheck. I have tools and enough skill to repair the things i break on a car so the 06 Pilot with a 320 a month payment got put on craigslist. Why? Cause i want to save 300 a month, we never had an issue making any bills.
The thing i notice most with people who are tight on money is that they are reluctant to come to terms with how much they actually make and refuse to make sacrifices to live within their means. all the little shit adds up, you have a land line? kill it. use coupons get in that groove and you'd be surprised how much it adds up.
Eat out much? don't order sodas, get water and be realistic about where you want to go. we eat out maybe once a week or so depending but we don't go to BoneFish either.
for about a year i rocked a Mortgage, 300 a month car payment, a 2 year old and a stay at home wife all on less than 55k a year. Also put Coil overs, adapters, wheels and tires on my Fantabulous gaybar this summer. I paid 45 bucks out of pocket for it due to wheelin and dealin and slingin parts.
You can do this. Man up grab your sack and make it happen.
-
lol@ bleeding 10 bucks out of every orrifice. that is exactly what im talking about. a pack of smokes and a monster every morning will crush your wallet.
I buy coffee at Costco and take a cup to work. i spend like 7 bucks a month or some shit on that after a coupon. Drink it like a man. Black hot and in a cup.

That exactly how I do it, make my coffee at work with a walmart $6 special coffee pot and using office supplied filtered water.
Buy bags of apples for snacks at work.
Go home and eat lunch (5-10min away)
Went from spending $30-$40/wk on Mini Mart shit $0/wk
Use the money I save to pay off my loans faster. :noel: :noel: :noel:

Hah surprisingly enough, there's some decent advice mixed in this thread. I've been fucking broke as a joke for the last couple years, since I got out of tech school actually... Funny how that works. Anyways, I know one of the hardest things to do at first was cut daily spending. You don't need a kitkat bar and a red bull every day. Drink fucking water, it's better for you. And I mean tap water, not the shit bottled they charge you to pollute the fucking earth with. Go to the dollar store once a week, you may be surprised the kinds of every-day things they have there for 50% of safeways and such (hot sauce, ketchup, corned beef hash, vienna sausages). If you live a ways from everywhere like I do, plan your trips in to town carefully, instead of running around every which direction like a damn decapitated turkey. Short of that, mooch off friends and family members, or one of ya'll needs a night job - better practice your pole dancing skillz.

Things i did to cut $ last month just cause :)
#1 get rid of cars that owe (i just sold my s2000 for an eg and the only reason i wont sell the truck is because i dont want my wife driving in MT winters without a reliable 4x4) $380 (with insurance)
#2 get rid of fucking internet on your cellphone, i just downgraded both my wifes and my phone (from a whopping 200 to 80 + taxes its a special verizon plan for loyal customers that fits my needs 550 shared min and unlimited txt) saved $100
#3 no more netflix dvd just stream $9
#4 downgrade TV Package (TIP sometimes canceling you current and switching to a new provider or swapping the account to the wifes on your current will let you on some awesome discounts that you dont qualify for) saved $20
#5 budgeted my outside meals so now i know how many times i am willing to eat out, not that i woudnt eat out if i wanted to but it helps to keep you in check. Saved about $25
#6 got a part time at sears. Making $ on my time off since there isnt shit to do here in the winter (selling fucking kids cloth but who cares) Making about $120-200 every 2 weeks since i dont work that often
TOTAL = at least 654 dollar savings :P and that was just cause i was tired of living paycheck to paycheck wife still working and i am still in the military making decent $
i have to pay off a credit card and truck loan thats just a total of= 8500 and i wont have any "debt"

JD + econobox speak crazy truth here.
Reducing your cable & phone bills is cash in your pocket.
If you've got 2 kids, you should be shopping at costco already. if not, get a membership asap, but stay away from the prepared stuff.
Having your girl watch for things on CL/kijiji/the flyers that sake cash is huge. Whether it's a car that you can spend a few hours fixing and she can sell the next week, or an in demand item that you can stock up on and flip, it's all cash in the bank...
Waitressing/bartending could be just the ticket for her. we had a whole range of chicas (married/single, old/jailbait) all working with the common thing being that they looked hot in black and could figure out how to smile and take customer orders. Depending on how good of a knobber they gave the manager, this got them an easy $10-13/hour, plus $120-200 a night in tips.
Even if your girl only worked a few nights a week, she could easily pull in an extra grand or 2 a month to help out with things.
We had girls working 4 mights a week pulling in $50k because they had perky tits and and could give decent service.
-
I might be Canadian and French, but at least I don't have your life lol

The only real expense I have for fun is streaming Netflix, and I bought mw3 but that's for my bday in a couple days. Internet is required. No land line already. Cells are only $100 a month. We don't have a Costco or SAMs club around here so that doesn't work. We cook every night instead of going out. I have an hour round trip ride to work and back, about 70 miles total every day. She has picked up watching two kids at $15 a day, but it's not an every day thing. I buy maybe two six packs of beer a month. My vice is smoking. Been trying to quit for a while now, that will save another $45 a month in smokes.
-

Damn, smokes are $9 a pack here.

It's like $6 here, but I smoke cigars so it's cheaper too.

3.39 at the liquor store in the hood here.
-
I was gonna say. 45 a month in cigarettes? Not since 1995. My wife and I spend about 300 combines on cigarettes. Fuck I wanna quit again. That, or go back to rolling Buglers. That shit was less than $2 a bag w/ papers, I learned to roll and drive stick at the same time, and the bag would last me a week at the least.
-
i spend nothing on cigarettes and have no clue what they cost anywhere. never known anything different
-
I quit when they hit 4.25 a pack. That was 6 years ago.

Good day care costs more then your woman will likely make. Factor in her resentment for loss of time with the kids and it's a massive lose-lose for you. Work harder.

Straight up troof dat.
I am working that right now. Just downgraded TunerWife from a Ford F150 Crew Cab, to a 90 Wagovan. I downgraded myself from an 03 Element, to a CRX (which is actually an upgrade). Liability insurance on both, storage insurance on the others. We went from about 28MPG combined, up to 50MPG combined. Saving ourselves about 400 month in fuel alone.
If she is staying at home, have her sit somebody elses kid along with yours. Daycare is expensive, she can find someone to watch. No more than one tho, or at least no more than you can deal with having in your home. Also, put her to work clipping coupons, and shopping/cooking frugally. That means fewer boxed and frozen foods. No microwavable shit, the cost per meal is crazy. Also, no garbage snacks for the kids. If there is fruit and veggies in the house, and not garbage, they magically eat the fruit and veggies. With the right coupon action and timing, she can cut your grocery bills by 60%. Not joking. Check out "Coupon Sense", it just takes time, which she has plenty of if she is staying home. Have her start winterproofing the home, sealing up windows and doors. More blankets, less furnace.
Being a good wife and homemaker is a full time gig, and can make a home run very cheaply and smoothly. You just got to get her motivated.
If you make her work, and bring on a bunch of other headaches in the process, you are not going to be any happier.
-

All that stuff you listed is already being done. Believe me. I just found out im getting an extra $465/month for taking one online class from the VA (through my dads benifits). and if i take two its $995 a month. So im going back to school.
