Title: Cheap turbo - your roots
Post by: Lowerit on May 23, 2014, 10:14:00 PM
I want to cheaply turbo my CRX.. the more I talk to people the more I see that the ITB idea is not a great one

I have a TDI intercooler,  I have been told that an integra ECU and injectors from the same Gen fit the bill...    So lets discuss.. not trying to make a ton of power.. 160whp in the CRX would work well for what I want.. I have an old Alpine tape deck, Fosgate amp and Vaurnet Decal in the back window.. I don't want to change a harness, I don't want to chip an ECU , or get an ostirch.

cheap cheap cheap...  cheap.

I don't feel like searching.
What engine do you have?
if you don't want to tune it then go with an fmu.
14b is a good sized small turbo, but I'm not sure about only 160hp

I'd go t28 or t25 whatever it is. Seems like its easier to find manifold adaptors for.
HF manifold everyone else stated the rest.
I have a integra ecu if you wanna buy it.

Is it mpfi or dpfi?  Supposedly, in the mid/late 90's, Stephan Papadakis ran 11's w/dpfi, I've been wondering how.  I think he used a much larger side feed injector for the secondary.  Sized a turbo to match so it would light when the secondary opened.  Then it would be fish store check valves on the map sensor n something to retard timing in relation to boost...

Considering the fact that he knows multiple people that will properly tune it for free, that method makes no sense to me.

Being an 87 makes it a bit harder. The irony is a FMU costs more than a set of DSM450's and a chipped obd0 ecu running turboedit or BRE. Even a basemap will run better & make much more power than an FMU.
