how do i go about fixing it?
-
option a: weld it proper
option b: jb weld it proper
-
i was probably going to JB weld, i was actually thinking about using Quicksteel, me and my dad have used it on our boat engine (chevy 350) and the exhaust manifolds. I figure the crack is very small and filling it with JB weld or something like that would be just fine?
-
It depends on where the crack is, how big it is, etc.

Got that pic yet?

I suggest taking it to a machine shop after you have it hot tanked. let then groove into it with a die grinder and re tig it from the outside. NOT FROM THE INSIDE
-
That shit needs to be welded at a minimum.
I'd probably hunt for a new case or tranny myself.
-
damn, i just sanded it some and put on some quicksteel stuff, i guess i'll start looking for a new case :(
-
grind that shit off and buy someone a 30 to weld it

thanks! i have a buddy with a tig welder hopefully he can weld it up for me!
-
cast is very tough to weld correctly

yes, make sure he knows whats going on
-
any advice or tips for tig welding the case?
-
aluminum sweats out oil if oil has been present. Most welders cant do cast correctly.
-
so really i need to bring it to a really good welder or get another case.................damn i'm shit out of luck

yes
-
Just go to the junkyard and get a new case and be done with it.
-
yeah, problem is there is no integra's at all in the junkyards around me :/ I'll have to source out a new case online
-
jb weld it and run that fucker.
-
hit the crack with a torch for a few mins that should burn off most of the oil, then rinse with acetone/alcohol/brake cleaner something that cuts oil.
-
If you heat if up and clean it a few cycles then weld it while its hot you should be ok. But putting filler in somewhere that has already cracked do to stress is not the answer.
-
yeah brake cleaned the hell out out of it, but i didn't try torch it or burning off the oil, good idea. I'll probably try to get a dremel or something on it as well before welding it
-
is that the outer case?
I have one for sale 50 shipped

I'll keep you in mind, may have found two trans locally.
-
grind along the crack SLIGHTLY, hit with torch SLIGHTLY, drill 2 small holes at either end of the crack and tig it. Tranny cases are tricky ask me how I know....

+1111!!1

Yeah be carefull if you torch it, heat can change the properties of the aluminum pretty easily. Damn. I wouldnt jb weld it, i'll bet that thing opens up when there's a heavy load on it. I'm supprised it didnt come apart.
