Had some injector plugs switched and didn't know it, so it was a vaccum trip. Now that that's all sorted out, we're gonna head back to the dyno for real tuning. The most fun I had was stopping at gas stations along the way. People see me get out of the right side and look at me like their having a bad acid trip. It helps that the car is open downpipe and smells like corn too.

so in a rhd car, is the pedals/shifter the same orientation, or is it mirrored?

same just on the opposite side. feels strage going into 5th gear when i was playing with my rhd front clip.

Pedals and shift pattern is the same. It's not as hard to get used to as I thought it would be. I'm not ready to be speed shifting or anything, but it was a good first couple hours of driving. I'm gonna wash it and post more pics today.

projected hp numbers?

Anything over 400 will be fine. We'll probably end up in the 420 range. Last week it made 260 with a boost leak and two injector clips mixed up. lol.

So the tuner guy calls me at 4pm today to say he has time to tune it. Drive 45 minutes away and by then his girlfriend was on the way. I asked him if he's ever heard of "G's up hoes down" before, and he professed his love for being a fake ass bitch.

So, no matter how bomb-diggity he is with the E85 turbo, he's a bitch to me. I'm angry, and not taking pictures today.

Put it on the dyno today (again). Made 250 at 14psi falling out of vtec because I've got so much shit tapped into the tunertoys fitting. Guess Mr. anti sandwich plate will need one afterall. Once that's done, we're hitting 400 or burning it to the ground. More updates tomorrow.

I bought a sandwich plate and after looking at it, I couldn't make myself install it. Used the TT fitting too, but it only flows oil to the turbo. I'm guessing yours is flowing to the turbo and vtec? I'd find another way before putting a sandwich plate on there.

The tunertoys fitting is supplying my turbo (restricted slightly in anticipation of this issue), the vtec head, and the mechanical gauge. With all of that going through a 1/8 port, it's just not enough flow.

How much oil pressure is teh gauge showing? Ive ran the turbo and vtec head off a TT block fitting without any issues, Hopefully you dont have a oil pressure issure with the motor  :?:

What his gauge says is probably useless. Probably shows great pressure. But if he Tee'd a gauge right at the turbo and right at the vtec solenoid he'd find it's lower from the flow losses associated with each. What size lines are you using?

Post by: Stealthmode on August 24, 2009, 09:04:42 PM
I probably should have though about this more when I did it, but it's a TT block fitting going to a -3 firewall line, to a tee with one to the turbo, to another tee  :noel: going to -6 to the head, and an 8ft. -3 to the gauge. Damn, that sounded dumber than I thought. haha.

These are pics of the first dyno we were on. Since that day another shop called me to paint their new 5,000sq ft shop, so needless to say the tuning was worked in with the new shop. Both of them have great reps with E85, but the guy in these pictures is booked out "forever" as it were.

Just got done on the dyno. 412.80HP at 21psi. It's a wound up little bitch for sure. I think I might need some more breathers cause a cloud of smoke appears at every other stoplight. Haven't even washed it to take pictures, but an update, well ahead of 2017.  :noel:

hes still using that faggot stock gsr manifold. a simple switch to an aebs if one is to be found with a 70mm from chris would probably net over 30 WHP.

The aebs manifold is a nice piece ugly as shit but nice. Not sure if you can find one these days though I was on a waiting list for almost 5 months and still never got them in.

From what the rep told me was they were running 50 of them and that was all they planned on that was a couple months ago though.

rod and piston LS block
stock rebuilt gsr head with type r valve springs.

The intake manifold was definately something I heard about all day, even without the butterflies. The edlebrock IM was suggested next, as well as type r cams. First I'll be adding more breathing, and trying to source an excellent oem distributor. We put 2 honda distributors on it, both having breakup up top. The third distributor was the least breakup, and it was an aftermarket job, which is said to be junk.

I've still got alot of details to take care of with everything from the engine to the interior, stereo, etc..., but once I get it all done I'll post vids and shit.

MSD coil+new OEM ignitor and you'll be good to go. What spark plugs and what gap.

Ignitor is most likely your issue with top end break up.

Is the dude with the AWD dyno named Shane?

No, the guy pictured with the awd dyno is Jordan. I've heard of the Shane guy before, I believe with DB Performance, and to my memory an old affiliate of Brent Rau. I think he's located 45 minutes or so from me, and never been there.

MSD coil+new OEM ignitor and you'll be good to go. What spark plugs and what gap.

We swapped an oem coil in from another dist. and it still broke up. The plugs I believe are the NGK 7's, and I believe we ended with 20 for the gap, but he may have gone slightly smaller, saying that 16 is the lowest he'd ever done with E85.

Ignitor is most likely your issue with top end break up.

It was strange. Sometimes it would break up, and others it wouldn't. Our final outcome I'd say isn't 100%, but very close, and something I'll need to fix for long term.

If you have a spare dist laying around if my memory is correct a sohc ignitor should work in the dohc vtec dist I know that applies to obdo 100 percent

I have tuned 2 cars on dyno's that did the same thing your talking about. We switched ignitors got some brand new vatozone ones and they did the job. Break up was gone.

Your right nasioc guy.  It needs AWD and a 4G63 pushing it. Also needs to tune with DSMlink, because speed density and load based tuning are for slow cars.

FUck those vatozone ones. I've bought 3 and they all either don't work, or go out with the quickness.

Invest in an OEM unit from Honda.

at around $350 a pop he may as well go with an msd pro billet

Anythign with MSD stamped on it is teh quickest way to ruin shit.  I never got my shitbox civic right after full MSD.  2 ASE techs and 2 MSD reps verified everydamn thing i did down to correct wire size.  Never Again.

To be honest steve my friend has run his 500whp ls/vtec for thousands of miles and never had smoking from crank case pressure.

Now could this be from something else? oil leak? etc....

maybe us hicks from the plains don't have issues with crank case pressure. but i would think one of the guys in town (2 300-350 whp, 1 400whp, 1 500whp) would have an issue if it was a BIG deal.

I'm in the process of tearing some shit apart. We DID have to swap in that oil sammich, had it leak a little, had the hose pulled off the top of the black box for a couple pulls, etc..

I'd be concerned if it was constant smoke, but it seems like it's every couple minutes, usually after the few 4th gear rape sauces I've done.

Post by: Stealthmode on November 28, 2009, 11:07:59 PM
Well, the high rpm stutter seems to do with the fuel supply, whether real, or simply having too small of a filter on it. That fix for winter was a given. I did a compression and leakdown before I stored it, and the numbers weren't that great. 155's +/- 3% across. Leakdown numbers were anywhere from high normal to 38%, so I tore it down. Seems there's a scratch in a wall from a ring, and the piston/wall clearance seems way loose, but I haven't measured it yet. Gonna do larger IM, cams, TB, etc. and just decided to freshen up the whole thing.

If work picks up a little, I may look for a sleeved block, but I'm not sure.

What is your compression ratio to have 155 on cylinder?

Btw, are the pictures overexposed the bad weather or it's like that where you live. Never seen a picture of you car without rain...

Shit my Ls is 175 on all 4 with 8.0:1 comp. Sounds like you got some problems for sure. Hope it all pans out for you.

True, but there's no denying that there is something wrong with the motor as he had a 38% leak down.

Oh well he tore it down

Stealth do you happen to have a link to the documented RHD swap?? I cant find it, I know when I left you were just starting, but I cant find the thread or pics

I never did a rhd writeup, and my compression should be 9:1. I think I'm going to end up getting a new bare block and honing that.

170 psi.

Varies a lot with cam, and to a certain extent how fast the starter turns over the engine, but 170 psi is the median number for 9:1 CR.

My bone stock Z6 was 190psi +or- 3 across all 4 cylinders. 155 does seem low but like JD said the cam makes quite a difference.

I wouldn't worry about the compression test results as much as the highly varying leakdown results.
