DIY Flow Bench Controller
« on: March 01, 2012, 01:59:05 PM »

Sewell con'd me into building an injector controller for him, and it's in final testing phase. Mine is 75% finished, but will be exactly the same.

*There are 2 dozen "modes" to test and clean injectors. The picture shows it apart with the test wires hooked up.

*Automatic or manual fuel pump power via internal 30 amp relay. The LED on the power block simulates the fuel pump for this picture.

*8-14v input for the fuel pump & micro-controller.

*8-18v input to power the fuel injectors.

*Adjustable deadtime value

The numbers on the left are for the current mode, the numbers on the right are for injector deadtime (0.00ms, 0.15-2.70ms in 0.05ms increments). Deadtime is coded in microseconds, but displayed in milliseconds. The dials are for mode & deadtime selection. Currently it's protected/fused for 5 amps worth of injectors - 4 saturated or 4 p&h using a resistor box. The MOSFET controlling the injectors can go up to 30 amps (with a heatsink).

Awaiting input:

Running MODE 80, DEADTIME set at 1.70ms

What it will be working with...

FYI I do NOT intend to build another unless the price is right. I've put a good 30 hours into this (hardware & coding), probably more.

The survey says YES.

The question is how much do I want to put down for "inventory".

I was thinking that after I saw Moates' Engine Sim. You'd think for $200 they'd at least put it in a box!

Good to hear the "overseas connection" works.

30 hours?

all you need is a 555, 2 pots, computer power supply, and some power mosfets. O0

how do you run yours?

I think all cop cars need to have turbo. nbspnbsp Then they would understand the necessity of putting your foot down and how uncontrollable the urge is to fucking rail on that shit.

I tried a 555 already. Very difficult to get a precise pulse, meaning constant 2ms pulse etc. It also can't do different pulse widths/rpms, unless you're okay with not knowing exactly what the numbers are. Then there's adding in dead time values for different injectors...

Mine uses a PIC programmed to provide exact pulse widths. It should be precise enough where temp of fluid/air & baro pressure will account for more error than the chip's timing.

Here's a sample of what the "in-rail cleaning" mode does:

Turn fuel pump on
wait 3000ms
loop # of seconds shown on deadtime display:
Turn injectors on 5ms
Turn injectors off 5ms
Turn injectors on 10ms
Turn injectors off 10ms
Turn injectors on 15ms
Turn injectors off 10ms
Turn injectors on 25ms
Turn injectors off 20ms
end loop
wait 1000ms
Turn off fuel pump

Try that with a 555 timer.

Expect some really "big" things soon. Sewell should have his controller soon, and mine is just waiting for me to put holes in the cover.

I'm guessing you'll need g-cylinders larger than 100ml? ;)
