sohc turbo help
« on: August 08, 2012, 07:10:05 AM »

if i plan on going turbo in my 90 crx and i have a sohc zc should i put a d16z6 head on this block or just swap a whole d16z6 motor in? my goal is to beat a subaru wrx sti so im looking to do around 400 hp. is this an acceptable goal? or is this even possible with a single cam? id like to do a single cam but i also want it to be a reliable car. can someone help me out that knows about turbos? i know barely anything when it comes to turbos. thank you so much!

You really need to know exactly what ya have first.

ZC SOHC vtec or no-vtec.

IF vtec, look at the intake side of the casting and it should be a P08 casting, if it is you already have a D16z6 head.

If not, look up mini-me vtec on google or just go to D-series.org and search.

Also this your first post and thread on here, go Force Induction section, lookup Free Turbo Kits ( http://www.realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/index.php/topic,25.0.html ) or NOOB of the year! ( http://www.realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/index.php/topic,14535.0.html )

Follow example of how your first thread should be done.

If ya want you can delete this thread and start over to make you look better.  :noel:

So true.

400hp is a serious goal for a d. I have a friend who is having issues with 300.  Dyno day soon, we will see what it is now.

Your looking at all forged internals, a cam, a large ball bearing turbo; possibly a sleeved block, and a lot of sequential tuning.   Shop tuning for a reliable setup will cost big time; trust me.  Don't expect it in one 3 hour session.

Hopefully your pocket book can cough up 2-3k for everything that will be needed.

If you shoot for 250ish; now your really in the right range for a novice turbo enthusiast.  Don't shoot the moon; work your way up.  You'll thank me and your pocketbook in the end.

I don't think noobs have any idea what 400whp feels like. For example, a lot of people think a lsv is fast. Those same people may some day put down 250whp with a ebay turbo kit, they will think it feels like 400. Until they actually have 400 and realize its a fucking handful. I Cant imagine what 600+ would be like.

My friend has a z6 that made 408? wheel, and he has a simple build.

wiseco pistons

eagle rods

ARP head studs

780cc injectors

ebay cast mani

HE351cw holset

Tuned by Sewell with ECTune, at like 20lb i believe, on pump 93, its not really that difficult....

Jarred, what the hell are you talking about?

300whp on a D is easy. Vitara pistons, eagle rods, a little head clean up, cast manifold and an eBay t3/to4e at 15-17psi will do it easy. I DD'd that exact setup and made 310/240 on 15psi. That was stock z6 intake, TB, and cam. I added valve springs, 28psi and 130 shot and made 487whp without changing anything else. Stock A6 sleeves too. It is well documented that 600-ish is their limit.

1.5; not as easy.

I mainly say because 99% of heads don't go for proper tuning or assembly techniques.

Mine had a lot more in it, we had to pull it back for traction on the dyno. 487 was the best we could get to hook once the nitrous button was hit.
