I bought an ASUS for sick gaming capabilities. Overall a sweet laptop, although they have stupid keyboard filters that skip letters if I type too fast. I disabled them, but then my touchpad stopped locking when I had an external mouse plugged in...

That's my biggest complaint. The 4 gigs of DDR2 memory on 64bit vista, Cenrino 2 mobile processor and Nvidia Gforce 9800mobile work well with everything.

My next laptop will be a Lenovo though. We use one as our Motec tuning laptop at school... awesome machine.

My Dell's LCD is still perfect 4 years later.  Not a single dead pixel or anything.   

But the rest of the unit is falling apart around it...

My HP laptop is ok other than the touch pad scroll feature and the WI-FI needs the driver re-installed every now and again.

those are the same 2 problems with mine, except the wifi problem is fixed with the new driver!

3 years on my LCD and it's fine. But this thing likes a new battery every 12-14 months though... Warranty paid for it though. Rather see a battery die than a HD. Dell's in general seem to have the most durable HD's. That's the main reason I got a Dell.  (on a side note, I do need to backup some shit one day *just in case*)

Hp has some good laptop and some bad.

the overheating issue is true with a lot of different brands, as for their customer service... sounds like a bunch of assholes and you should buy a different brand next time

i've had decent luck with dells, never called customer service though... i've had a couple latitudes and one worked for about 5 years without problems then took a shit and the one i have now is new and i havent' had any problems yet

i loved the design on my first computer which was a HP but that thing used to be HOT AS FUCK. it burned me many times. which i always thought was my fault for alwyas leaving it on and plugged in and shit. eventually the mother board went to shit on it.

i just bought another one and i loved the price/desgin/features to much to say no just becuase of what i thought last time was "misuse" so i got it. i like this one alot also but well see. ive only had it for like a month

my acer sucks ass.  overheats and shuts down if its in my lap.

Take off the cover panel over the fan.  Take off the other cover panel.  Remove all the dust.

Been there, done that.

My five year old vaio works like a champ.  Had beer all over it, dropped, thrown, snuffx.com.   Love this thing.

i had a toshiba satelite with windows 95 on it. it was a pentium 1.

no dead pixels, hard drive was good, and the battery held its charge fr 3 freaking hours. it was one of the  satelites. i used it for runing a linux server.
