My GSD has gone through the whole personal protection training shindig, and would probably let your cat get the first swing.  After that, it's neck will be broken.  Unfortunately, that's become an issue since I've been out here.  Apparently he's torn up 2 random cats and a neighbor's dog.  Dog was a 60lb pit that the neighbors let run into our yard while my sister was outside.  Bad idea when the pit barked at her.  Think I paid like $1200 in vet bills for that

Speaking of, anyone with dogs ever go with an electric fence?  Don't really need one, but would like one at my new place just for liability reasons since I'm getting another GSD pup.  Does that shit actually work?  Or is it bullshit when it comes to stopping a determined large dog?

Invisible walls can't stop momentum.  If the dog is determined, I'm sure it'll get through.  I think those things are better suited from keeping your dog in the yard when it's out for a casual shit.

I slap my cat around; he still loves me. He also knows when I yell at him to stop doing something, he better stop doing that or I will kick his fucking ass. People are amazed that I have him trained like a dog.

GSD's are notorious for bullying animals smaller than themselves.  Most other big dogs treat smaller dogs like they are the same size, or totally ignore them.

My black lab / pit bull is always rough with smaller dogs.  Don't know why, not mean, just rough.  He had a small pug in his mouth a few weeks back...  That was fun...

I think a majority of breed-specific stereotypes are pretty useless and that nurture has more of an effect than nature...

But my APBT does like to lay on the cat like it's a pillow, and puts the stomp down on chihuahuas...  It's simply the dog trying to play and doesn't quite realize the size/weight/strength difference.  Drags my mother's little papillon around like it's weightless.  Funny, but I have to watch out to avoid paying vet bills or my dog being euthanized for "being vicious."

anyway, we had an invisible fence, and if he wanted to leave, he would.

I know what you mean.  Up here in Kanadia they have a pit bull ban that my pup has been grandfathered from, but if someone says that he scares them or looks the wrong way he can be taken away from me and euthanized.  It' already happened to 2 owners that i know of...  Fucking sucks.

At one of the apartment complexes I was at, I was taking her for a walk and a chihuahua ran around the corner, owner not in sight.  They did their sniffing thing and my dog decided to start playing.  Like I mentioned, she doesn't realize her size, and the chihuahua let out some horrible whining when my dog stepped on it.  Lady came out giving me dirty looks and I asked if she needed a leash...

Management said a complaint was filed saying that my dog was aggressive...  Fortunately they had met my dog a few times, and I was speaking to a couple people when the chihuahua ran up so had some witnesses that she was nowhere in sight, her dog was running off-leash, and my dog was only trying to play.  Nothing happened except for her getting reminded it's law that dogs must be leashed.

I've read plenty of stories about similar situations where it could have meant a death sentence.

Cops do that all the time anyway.  Read USA section of cnn or any other big news site and there are frequently stories of cops shooting people's pets.  I'm sure some of it is warranted, but I'm sure a lot of it is just cops overreacting or taking advantage of the opportunity to shoot something.

I had a black lab/pit mix, he was the best dog ever, smart as fuck, protected the family, did everything you could ask for a dog.  He killed a 35ish lb racoon after cornering it, the racoon was walking on the back fence and he hopped it and hit the fence to knock it down, then he cornered it under his dog house which has only one entrance and exit, and he ran down there and bit the shit out of it and killed it.   I know everyone thinks their dog is the smartest dog, just like everyone thinks their ugly baby is the cutest turd ever, but this dog was fucking smart, he is the only dog i have EVER seen that actually PUT A BLANKET ON HIMSELF.  Fucking crazy.  Dog was almost too smart for his own good.

The blanket thing is a common occurrence with Pits, they love to be curled up and warm.  My guy will build a nest out of a blanket and roll around until he's covered.  The only thing he doesn't like and has killed (twice) are cats.  The last one left quite the mess in my backyard...  I put the remains in a bag and dropped it off with a note to the owners when they left "missing" notes in the neighbourhood about their missing cat...  There are no more loose cats on the block.  I hate cat owners that let their cats out without supervision or being tied up.  If my dog has to be on a leash, your damn cat that walks all over my car at night should be too, or it gets eaten by my awesome dog.
