d15 vs d16 bottom end strength
« on: March 01, 2014, 10:34:24 PM »

I know as far as stock bottom ends go I always build d15s all motor and d16s for boost. But I have a lead on a set of billet rods for a d15 and other than the slightly smaller crank can you see any reason the d15 wouldn't take the snot getting beat out of it? I would think the smaller journals would help with oiling. But would the shorter rod mean a stronger rod? I know the sleeves will take more of a pounding on the thrust side but is making 400hp out of a d15 on e85 sound un reasonable? I also dont want to have to rev the bitch to 8500 either. I dont want to rev it any harder than 7500 just to keep it together the whole season.

Isn't a D15B crank the same rod journal as a reg D16? Didn't Vitaras work in those with regular length D16 rods?

I got a D15B2 bottom end in my ED, boosted of course, with some prototype vitara forged rods.

So far so good.  I ran about 16psi through a 50trim t3/t4 geunine garret turbo, ran 12.1.  It'll go faster before I pull it out and put my F22 in.
