Author Topic: turbo civic smokes a-lil after reved up high or when i let off gas/high rpm's  (Read 3853 times)

dont think its anything too serious. but just too see if my turbo civic was smoking at all i had my friend go behind my car and tell me if their was any smoke when i revved up the motor into higher RPM's.... so i revved it up to about 7k and even i got out real quick too see for my self  so revved it up high and when the revs came back down a little blue smoke came from the exhaust and then stopped smokeing. and it only does this at high rpm or i assuming when i get on it while driving.. but i am also thinking that since my turbo has to have a oil restrictor because of high oil pressure.that maybe the high rpm's is making to much oil go past the restrictor. but im not sure what would make it smoke a little after revved high ??????? :noel:

depending on the motor and specs on it you could be looking at
1. rings getting a lil soft and doin blow by when it comes down
2. valve seals getting a lil weak
3. turbo is pushing oil passed the seals

Know any history on your turbo?

Ive seen a couple cars with bad oil seals in the turbo and they seem to smoke when you boost.  Sometimes youll get puffs of smoke at crusing speeds, like a drip of oil getting burned off every few seconds.  Another just smoked constantly after the car hit boost for the first time that day.  The last one I worked on didnt smoke much out the back but filled the lowest intercooler tube almost full of oil.  Ive almost always found oil in the pipes when the seals were bad.

To check your valve stem seals coast down a hill in a low gear (4000rpm'ish) with your foot off the accelerator for about 20seconds, then accelerate hard and have some one check for smoke. The coasting causes high vacuum and sucks oil down the stems.

my car did the same thing, it was my return line was not adequate, actually it was pinched slightly.

OK thankS, i'll check some different things out because i forgot i dont even have a pcv valve on the car i need to get a catch can on my motor asap..... :noel:
