General ignition timing question
« on: August 03, 2009, 07:19:08 PM »

How much adjustment does the distributor provide for ignition timing? I know some have smaller/larger slots than others that will affect this, but what is the approximate range in degrees from all the way retarded to all the way advanced at the distributor?

+/- 9 degrees, sometimes more like +/- 8 on some distributor housings.

-8 is what we usually were able to get when we did alot of nitrous cars. A guy down in sothern California one of the few guys to run 10's on a fmu daryl bacon use to slit open all the dist bolt holes. I have no idea what his base timing was but the way the car ran Im thinking almost nothing.

You just completed contradicted yourself.

edit: you must mean it changes from 12 deg. advanced to 19 deg. advanced, I thought you mean it changed in a total range of 12 to 18 degrees.
