OBX = OC
« on: January 09, 2010, 01:44:55 AM »

Question:  Are tranny gears of any type supposed to be heat treated and hardened?

Answer:  "No" - OB X

FUCK YOU

The metal in the trans case looked like it was shaved off, not at all like what actual case hardened shattered gears look like.  $300 well spent, 'cause it wasn't my $300.

FUCK YOU TOO, GRIMY OLD BUM!  Passing out in front of Timmy Ho's is awesome, along with the meth mouths hanging around, begging for _______ (insert anything)

Wow.  How long have you owned that unit?  Did you get some one wheel peel in the snow then hit a clear spot?

Not mine, I just had to do the work.  The owner "says" he was just driving around.    He had it for a couple of weeks

I dont know about you but I doubt that he was just driving around to make it blow up like that. Fuck but then I wouldent put it past the china man to put that out. I know bdvt has put a ton of hard miles on his obx with no problems.

yeah funny how people say they were "just driving around" when shit explodes. :?:

i had an obx in a b cable trans, sold it and the guy put 10's of thousands of miles on it just fine. My other friend did the same with his b cable obx. I would say 20-30k on it.

these were perchases in 06' so idk on the newer shit, but well worth the money imho......

Bone... Are the older units more or less solid than the shit being sold on ebay currently?

I haven't install a new OBX in 1.5 years and won't. Last OBX I touched was NYD and it needed the B series O ring, I used my last one. One 14mm deep socket is only good for 5 OBX installs, Sears won't warrenty them either.

i personally used a 1/4" drive 14 with an adapter to 3/8" for my inch pound torque wrench.  that shit is all scratched up but i don't give a shit about the crome on the outside of the tools, as long as they work

what you guys need to do is grab a center punch and first hit a peice of unhardened steel and then hit your china parts and compare the dimples.
its not perfect but at least it gives you somewhat of an idea if the part missed the heat treat.

MFactory or Quaife, the CRX I bought came with a Quaife, but if I had to do a fresh build, it would be MFactory. After Chris and I got burned by OBX, he got the money up to get the MF D LSD's bought, I've been itching to try one. But it seems that the extra $300 between the OBX and the MF means the broke dicks haven't had me install any.

$700 installed for OBX or $1000 for MFactroy.....shipping not included :)

I like my OBX, if ya remember Bone, Dave clearly stopped the pull on the dyno just to ask me what LSD I have because it had a 49 L 51 R torque split.... Which is what Matts car had 'quaife' IIRC.... But Bone your around Dyno's more than me....Is it that abnormal for a OBX?

AFAIK, I've never driven a OBX car or seen one dynoed.

Torsen diffs do NOT lock up like a posi or spool.

Most of my time around dynos with Dave, I've never payed attention to the torque split, I was watching overall TQ and HP numbers.

I'm a heat treater for power plants and refineries. We have at our shop everything needed to heat treat whatever. If you ever need it, just send me what you want treated, and let me know the type of material, and I'll find the procedure and heat treat it.
