SRP D16Z6 damaged valve reliefs
« on: March 28, 2009, 10:24:11 PM »

After filing:

After filing

I noticed that the valve reliefs were weakened and partially damaged along the perimeter of the pistons so I filed away the damaged areas.
Does this look ok to reuse these pistons?

Are the pin bores scuffed?

How much clearance is there between ring and ring land?  Stick a feeler in there and measure, a lot of pistons have slopped out lands and that shit is a waste of time to use especially with Vitaras being fifty nine cents plus shipping.

Lastly, and this is the MOST IMPORTANT, can you post pictures that are in focus?

Alright, those look better than I thought they would from your phone pics.  There's a tiny amount of carbon blasted out of the top of some of the pistons but no actual pockmarking of the piston surface - what detonation it saw was cosmetic, and shouldn't hurt anything.

Spiralocs are dirty cheap, if those were my pistons I'd pull the pins to make sure everything is legit.

Top ring to land gap is .038mm = .0015
SRP specs should be btwn. .0015 and .003, so, thats within specs.

This piston looks like it is cut deep into the top land.
Im going to have my machine shop look at it tomorrow.

Thanks JD.  8)
