Topic: Where to move? (Read 7555 times)

I am graduating in about a year, and I have to pick where I'm going to apply for residency, where I will be for 6 years. Since I'm Army I'm limited to 6 places, really 5 since I'm not going to stay in DC. Choices are Augusta GA, El Paso TX, San Antonio TX, Tacoma WA, and Honolulu HI. I'm pretty sure I want to go to Georgia, but I still need to decide on some backups. Hawaii has alot of spots, but I have heard some crazy shit about the cost of living out there. Does anyone have any input or thoughts about these places?

Fort Lewis Nig Nog. If you go to Ft Gordon in Agusta is pretty sweet to though. A lot of drunken nights I dont remember there. Howerver if you go to Agusta, you will be dealing with tradoc and a bunch of AIT students all the time. That is all a majority of that base is, Home of the signal school. Come to Washington and hang with the real Nig nogs.

My brother was army and stationed in Tacoma and lived there a few years. avoid it. That place is pretty shitty. Its like the Oakland of Seattle. I went there to visit him last year for xmas (xmas 2008) and the place just sucked. He moved back here to Florida last summer.

Id vote Texas. Then again I feel all your choices suck.

edit: If your cool with shitty conditions but being close to a lot of nogs, then Tacoma is for you.

tacoma isn't bad as long as you stay away from the suburbs of spanaway/lakewood/parkland, etc. ft lewis isn't a bad post to be stationed at, i know they've gotten new barracks for the POG's in the last 5-7 years. I've been to fort gordon, it sucks ass, 110 degrees in the shade with 95% humidity (not kidding) for 6 months out of the year. san antonio will be full of medi-pukes, but faaaaar more girls on ft SH. schofield in HI isn't bad, shit's expensive though. eat at the difac and save $ i guess.

Georgia is probably the cheapest place to live out of those although I haven't been to the others to know which is better than the other...

San Antonio is the place to be. The city is badass and consider this.... Ft. Sam is the training base for 68W's. I'm in a CSH and I can tell you for a fact, most of those medics are the hottest girls the Army has to offer. Being a 63B attached to a CSH was like a gift from God. Easy deployments and surrounded by hot ass women. The female to male ratio is about 40/60. Not sure anywhere else in the Army you'll find a split like that.

tacoma. Theres a fair bit of sprawl through there, but there are drive up coffee shops where girls in bikinis serve you your drink of choice. WIN. And you're pretty close to seattle, portland, Olympic Peninsula (the most beautiful coast you'll ever see) and Mt. Rainier NP, and countless national forests.

I just moved to Texas and I love it. The midwest was great and I know the summers here will be way too hot but I just feel like I fit in better here. Far fewer liberals. This is 'merika.

If you don't mind the rain, come to Tacoma. I don't mind the weather... but I grew up here.

As with any city, there are good and bad areas... stay out of the complete shitholes and you'll be fine. Plus, there are lots of rhmt'ers around.

If you can't see yourself in the Pacific NW, I'd say San Antonio. Good weather and dumb sluts are plentiful.

I've lived in most of these placed as an ARMY brat in the '70 and '80s.

I would say if you like weather other than southern heat 6-9 mo. out of the year then Ft.Lewis.

If you like southern heat and some good looking girls then Ft. Sam.

If you like Pacific heat and do not mind flying cock roaches and the expense of living then Hawaii.

And if I had a choice I would take Ft. Lewis because of the PNW meets are fun and I like to see something resembling four seasons.
Sometimes too much rain and green for me but I can get use to that.

I think you should see if you can get stationed in Germany instead. Lived there for 9.5 years and loved it.

Living in other countries for a while will make you appreciate anywhere in the USA more. ;D :yes:

Yeah I would be going to Hawaii. Cost of living might be high, but probably the nicest place out of your choices. With the higher cost of living usually comes higher pay rates, so you won't be bad off.
